The state department of Aging & Disability Services’ Bureau of Aging is working on Connecticut’s next State Plan on Aging, and they want to hear from you!

The Department of Motor Vehicles held a Community Event today at CSC for Colchester residents. When we talked about the benefits of building a new senior center for Colchester, these were the types of programs and services which benefit ALL ages that we hoped to host. It was steady traffic throughout the hours of 9:00 AM and on, pardon the pun. It ends at 1:00 PM for anyone in need of DMV services. We hope this was a great convenience for Colchester residents, and we are grateful to the DMV staff, without whom this would not have been possible.

See information below about a DMV Community Event for Colchester residents of all ages, tomorrow at the Colchester Senior Center, 15 Louis Lane, Colchester. This event is cash-free, so please have a debit or credit card as a form of payment. Any forms needed for this event can be found on the DMV website at https://portal.ct.gov/dmv/resources/dmv-forms?language=en_US No appointment needed, people will be served on a first-come-first served basis until the end of the event.

We are grateful to the Honorable George Baker, Judge of Probate, who shared his expertise at a Lunch and Learn sponsored by CSC, the Colchester Commission on Aging and the local chapter of AARP #4019. After his presentation and lunch, Judge Baker was good enough to stay and answer many questions from the audience members.

Today’s Flannel, Foliage & Friends luncheon was a treat. With talents showcased by John Paul Mereen in his first performance at CSC. His folk music, mellow vocals and mastery of guitar and harmonica, ensured that his set would be enjoyed by all. On one of his last songs, he surprised Harold and Pat who were celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. There was even a spotlight dance for them where other couples joined them on the dance floor. Making the day even more special, their son and daughter-in-law brought a cake in to share with their friends. What a truly special day.

CSC, we look good in cozy plaids! 😉

Warm thanks to the dedicated crafters from the Colchester Garden Club who make seasonal crafts for our Meals on Wheels recipients. Those who receive Meals on Wheels are homebound individuals aged 60 or older. These lovely seasonal pick-me-ups remind them that they are remembered and cherished members of the community. We thank the CGC members for their kindness and generosity. 🍁🍃🍂

Happy Fall Y’all! Earlier this week, Jodi led a crafting session to create these adorable Scarecrow Decorations made from paint stir sticks. How clever is that? Hand painted creativity and personal expression made each one a unique piece. I would be proud to display any of them. 🍂🍁🍃

Every year the CBA has a Scarecrow on the Green Contest. This year, CSC draws its inspiration from PEZ, a candy produced right here in CT. Great job to all of the members who worked on this year’s display! 🎃 👻 🔮

Congratulations to Josh, who came in to register for membership and learned he was actually our 3,000th member and we had a prize basket waiting for him. CSC has grown by over 1,000 new members since moving into our new building. I guess the saying is true…if you build it, they WILL come!
