The Colchester Police Department, located at the Northwest corner of the Colchester Town Hall is a full-service department responsible as the primary law enforcement agency for the Town of Colchester from 0700-2400 hrs daily. Community services provided by the Colchester Police include, but are not limited to: Child Car Seat Installation, Youth Services, School Resource Officer, TRIAD, Neighborhood Crime Watch, and support of a number of additional Community Policing initiatives.

What an incredible day at our Community Bike Rodeo! We had an amazing turnout, and it was great to see so many kids and families out riding, learning, and having fun. Events like this are what community policing is all about, building connections, promoting safety, and creating lasting memories.

A huge thank you to Colchester Parks & Recreation and Planning & Zoning for their partnership and support in making this event such a success. We couldn’t have done it without you!

We’d like to share information about a recent traffic accident on Wall Street, near the Route 2 overpass. A vehicle swerved to avoid another car and ended up crashing into construction equipment. Fortunately, there were no workers on site at the time, and no serious injuries have been reported.

This serves as a reminder for everyone to be cautious and to reduce speed in work zones. Your safety and the safety of those around you is incredibly important.

In light of this incident, we’ll be installing speed feedback signs in the area and increasing police presence to help keep our roads, workers, and community members safe.

4/17 Police Response to Stop and Shop.

This evening we received 9-1-1 calls reporting that a verbal disturbance was occurring at the self checkout area of Stop and Shop between two customers. Additional calls reported that one individual was brandishing a handgun.

Multiple Officers responded and detained all involved parties. It was determined that there was no firearm involved.

One individual was placed under arrest as a result of the investigation on scene.

There is no threat to the public.

🚔 **K9 Dutch Locates Evading Operator** 🐕

At around 10:10 PM on April 10, 2026, Colchester officers responded to a one-vehicle crash into a stone wall on Scott Hill Road. Upon arrival, the truck was empty, and the driver was nowhere to be found.

Thanks to our trusty K9 partner, Dutch, we were able to track down the operator hiding in the woods about 100 yards away! 🐾🚨

The 20-year-old driver was arrested for the following:

Evading Responsibility
Operating Under the Influence
Interfering with an Officer
Traveling Unreasonably Fast

Just a reminder, as we "spring forward" into daylight saving time, let's also remember to keep our speeds in check! 🚗💨 Today, we issued a summons for reckless driving to a driver clocked at 93 mph in a 50 mph zone right at the Colchester-Salem town line on Route 85.

With longer daylight hours ahead, let’s ensure we’re all safe on the roads. Please drive responsibly and stay within the posted limits! 🛑✨

On February 26, 2026, during the aftermath of a significant snowstorm, our dedicated team encountered a unique situation. A DoorDash driver disabled his vehicle on a snowbank and was unable to complete a delivery due to vehicle issues and lack of insurance, resulting in his vehicle being towed.

In a display of community spirit, Officer Allard rose to the occasion! He not only ensured the safety of the driver but also took it upon himself to deliver the Chipotle order to the customer.

While DoorDashing isn’t in our contract, we’ll gladly accept a 5-star review for this delivery! 😄 Thank you, Officer Allard, for going above and beyond for our community!
