FINALIZATION OF THE HEALTH WORKFORCE PLAN FOR THE PROVINCE OF ROMBLON

The Province of Romblon, through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO Romblon) and Center for Health and Development MIMAROPA (CHD MIMAROPA) successfully conducted the Finalization of the Health Workforce (HW) Plan for Romblon Province on October 20–22, 2026, at Wynwood Hotel, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

The activity brought together members of the provincial health workforce, including representatives from the Rural Health Units (RHUs), eight (8) hospitals, the Provincial Government of Romblon (PGR), and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) team. The workshop was guided by technical representatives from the Center for Health Development (CHD) MIMAROPA and the Health Human Resource Development Bureau (HHRDB) of the Department of Health (DOH).

The three-day workshop provided an avenue for collaborative discussions, data validation, and refinement of the province’s health workforce plan in alignment with the goals of Universal Health Care (UHC). It emphasized the importance of evidence-based planning, inter-facility coordination, and strategic human resource development to address workforce needs and strengthen the delivery of accessible, equitable, and quality health services across the province.

Through the active participation of health facilities and partner agencies, the activity marked an important step toward establishing a responsive and sustainable health workforce that will support the continuing improvement of health services for every Romblomanon.

Be Your Own BREASTfriend 🎀: Ugaliing magpatingin at magpa-breast cancer screening!

- Screening (Walang Sintomas): Kung aged 50–69, magpa-check up sa doktor o magpa-Mammogram tuwing 2 taon.

The Department of Health (DOH) MIMAROPA has urged women to undergo regular screening and seek medical attention for unusual changes in their bodies as health authorities strengthen efforts to prevent breast and cervical cancer in Romblon.

Romalyn Racho, unit head of the Health Education and Promotion Office of DOH MIMAROPA, said fear, embarrassment, lack of knowledge and concerns about medical expenses are among the reasons women delay seeking medical attention.

During the Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign in Alcantara town, Racho emphasized that early detection increases the chances of timely treatment and that a cancer diagnosis does not automatically mean death.

Under the theme “Be Your Own Breast Friend,” she encouraged women to become familiar with their bodies, watch for unusual changes in their breasts and consult health professionals if they notice anything abnormal.

The campaign also marked the launch of a ceremonial vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV), led by the DOH, Provincial Health Office and Alcantara Municipal Health Office, with support from other municipal health offices and the provincial government.

HPV vaccination is among the measures to protect children against the virus, which is the primary cause of cervical cancer and can also cause other cancers and ge***al warts.

Following the ceremony, a school-based immunization program is scheduled in Romblon schools from October to November in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and parents.

The free vaccination program will include measles-rubella (MR), tetanus toxoid and HPV vaccines, initially targeting eligible Grade 4 and Grade 5 learners. HPV vaccination is recommended for children aged 9 to 14 to provide protection before potential exposure to the virus.

Health authorities urged women to follow health professionals’ recommendations on screening and encouraged parents to support eligible children’s participation in the immunization program. | via Ryan Christian Seraspi/PIA
