✅ Sherborne Neighbourhood Policing Team Weekly Update

Here’s a quick round up for this week, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team

🔹 Cleared blocked roads during the storms and assisted drivers

🔹 Located missing male with dementia and returned home

🔹 Arrested a male in breach of Domestic Violence Protection Order and protected a vulnerable Domestic Abuse victim

🔹 Dealt with reports of a stabbing and assisted injured person. There was no stabbing, but it was a violent incident that upset passers by. Individuals have been identified and are assisting with our enquiries

🔹 Dealt with a road traffic collision at Kitt Hill that left a van blocking the road and facilitated its removal and the flow of traffic on the A30 throughout

🔹 Continuing from yesterday’s post in relation to Leweston School, please be aware that a number of residents of Leweston School continue to live on site and will do so for the foreseeable future. Anyone entering or remaining on the site with malicious intent should be under no illusion that such behaviour will be dealt with robustly. Dorset Police have increased patrols in and around the school and will continue to monitor the location closely.

🚔 Response to an Incident at Leweston School Today

At 1.15pm today, officers from Sherborne Neighbourhood Policing Team and response officers from Dorchester attended Leweston School following a report that six youths wearing balaclavas were trespassing on the grounds and attempting to gain entry to the school through a window.

Officers quickly attended the scene and located the youths involved. Their details were recorded and parents or guardians were contacted who then attended to collect them. One youth was transported home by police.

We will continue to work closely with school staff and carry out patrols in the area to help prevent crime and anti-social behaviour. We will take positive action where offences are identified.

It was a busy evening yesterday in Sherborne for the Neighbourhood Team and we didn't have a chance to get out of town.

-On late shift we located a male in a tent who was wanted so we helped him with a roof over his head courtesy of Weymouth Custody. He was found guilty today in Court for breaching a DVPO (Domestic Violence Protection Order). Thank you to those who reported the tent - it shows that the information the public provide is essential to us.

-This was followed immediately by a lady who approached us to say her husband with dementia had been missing for several hours. Fortunately we managed to locate him before it got too cold and returned him home. When we got the chance we ensured the paperwork was completed to try and get extra support for the couple.

- As we had just dropped the elderly gentleman back home a report of a stabbing came in for Horsecastles which was a case of everything is dropped and all available units attend. Fortunately it turned out that there was no stabbing although an altercation had occurred that resulted in some minor injuries. We established that no one was in serious danger and identified the parties involved. There were no arrests but enquiries are ongoing regarding potential offences. Again thank you to everyone who called this in - it was not a pleasant thing to witness and we are grateful you called us.

- As soon as we got back to the station to take a breather and have a cuppa no sooner had the milk been poured than a Road Traffic Collision was called in for Kitt Hill on the A30. A van had collided with a wall and the front axle snapped so there was no possibility of moving it. It was completely blocking one lane and causing traffic chaos so a diversion was put in place for westbound traffic up Cornhill until we manged to remove the van. Fortunately no one was injured and we have to thank the patience of all the motorists who passed the scene as not one complained. Thank you.

Needless to say this was all then followed by a lot of writing!

But please remember that Halloween can be a scary time for some. If you are out trick-or-treating, look for the houses that are decorated so you can be sure they are welcoming visitors 🎃

Some people may get distressed by strangers knocking on their door so please be considerate and, if you are not sure, stick to the houses of people you know so that everyone can have a stay safe season.

Yesterday saw some terrible weather and we dealt with several separate incidents of trees down blocking roads in the area we cover - the majority of which is rural. One aspect of our role is assisting in keeping the roads open and yesterday a bit of old fashioned sweat and graft helped keep our communities on the move. A big thank you to the locals who came out and helped move chopped up tree out of the road!

Be careful driving today - the roads are wet and there is a large amount of tree and branch debris that has been blown down which makes a nasty combination resulting in slippy conditions

✅ Sherborne Neighbourhood Policing Team Weekly Update

🔹 Sherborne Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to carry out targeted patrols on the Corelli Estate. We have also made an application to Dorset Council to have CCTV cameras placed on the estate to assist in gathering evidence of persons causing anti-social behaviour.

🔹 We have conducted regular intelligence led patrols within Sherborne town centre and our known anti-social behaviour hotspots.

🔹 We continue to safeguard vulnerable victims of rogue traders. This week, we worked with a victim's bank and obtained quotations from reputable local builders. These can now be used as evidence to demonstrate that the victim may have been disproportionately charged for work carried out on their home. 🔹 The next deployment of the mobile police station in Sherborne will be outside the Co-op at Westbridge Park on Thursday the 5th of November, between 11am and 1pm.

Weekly Update - Friday October 16th 2026

- Earlier this year we posted that Sherborne NPT Officers had tracked down and arrested a person on suspicion of committing s*xual offences against children. Now the investigation is concluded we can confirm this was Clare Townsend. She was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on Monday 12 October 2026 to three years and nine months in prison and made the subject of a s*xual harm prevention order (SHPO) for ten years. Townsend was also given a five-year restraining order and placed on the s*x offenders register indefinitely.

- Work continues on the Corelli Estate to tackle increasing anti-social behaviour associated with the use of off-road motorbikes, e-bikes and e-scooters. Yesterday evening another bike was seized after it was sighted by an Officer on patrol. Thank you to all those who call in and keep us updated of where and when these incidents occur. Please do get in touch with any information that might assist us.

- A Mobile Police Station deployment was recently held in Sherborne outside the Co-op, Westbridge Park providing local residents with an opportunity to speak directly with the Neighbourhood Policing Team and raise any concerns affecting them or the wider community. The next session will be on the 5th of November, between 11am-1pm.

- Safeguarding work continues following reports of rogue traders targeting elderly and potentially vulnerable residents. We are working collaboratively with Trading Standards, banks and government-approved traders to help protect residents and disrupt those responsible.

- Intelligence-led foot patrols continue across Sherborne town centre and identified hotspot locations, focusing resources on areas where concerns and incidents have been reported.

- On a lighter note the team managed to reunite a frightened dog that bolted after a fright with her relieved owner. Both owner and dog were ecstatic to see each other.
