Day 5 of Police Academy at Long Lawford Primary School.

Our Student Officers were planning their interviews first thing ready to interview the suspect after lunch.
Two classes hadn't had their PAVA training so whilst one class were thinking of open and closed questions for their interviews we took them outside for their training. (using water guns )

We then asked for some help from a couple of local PCSO's to act as the suspect so that the students officers could interview them.

Throughout the week the students engaged in hands-on activities which was designed to teach them teamwork, responsibility and helping others. These experiences will not only help them with understanding Law Enforcement but will also instil valuable life skills.

Day 3 and 4 of Police Academy at Long Lawford Primary School.

Over the past two days our student Officers have been shown how to search a Vehicle, and then went in groups to search our vehicle to find the hidden items. They have also had a radio workshop and they were taught how to speak on a radio and how to record the information given to them by the controller.

Day 4 the Student Officers had training on how to arrest a suspect, later in the day the Officers then had the opportunity to chase and arrest a suspect, our Officers seemed to enjoy this bit.

Today Student Officers will be learning how to prepare for an interview and will then be interviewing an offender to try and get them to own up with all the evidence they show the suspect.
After lunch the Student Officers will have their passing out parade in front of parents and will receive a Certificate for all their hard work.
We have had a great week working with all of Year 6 and we wish them well going into Y7 of High School.

We’ve all heard it said that Knowledge is power: educating young people about the causes and consequences of knife crime can help prevent it from happening in the first place. It’s good to get young people talking about weapons and the associated risks, in order to dispel common myths and improve their understanding of the seriousness of the problem.

Monday 18th May 2026 saw the start of Op Sceptre week, this is not just about enforcement activity; it’s also about education and wider awareness of knife crime.

Rugby SNT Officers visited The Bradby Club yesterday and were out in the Police Community Van today engaging with school pupils. After watching a short video on the dangers of knife crime, honest and open discussions followed, and surveys were completed.

Thank you to all the young people who took time to listen and share with us. We’ve helped raise awareness and provided food for thought!

Around 600 plants were discovered growing inside a large-scale industrial cannabis farm on East Union Street in Rugby.

We also found evidence that the growers had been living inside the property, including mattresses and various toiletries.

We arrested three people on suspicion of producing cannabis who attempted to escape on foot from the premises when our officers got there.

The building itself had been boarded off, but the farmers had built a secret escape hatch through a hinged door created in the boards on one side.

Detective Inspector Alan Hands said “This was a great result for us – this grow was enormous, and we’ve taken a significant amount of drugs out of supply, and whatever criminal gang that was running it will feel the hole in their pocket.

“In addition, with the expansive dodgy electrics and lighting that were set up inside, there was an extremely high risk of the building catching on fire and putting the neighbouring properties in danger.”

Day 2 of Police Academy at Long Lawford Primary School.

Today our Junior Police Academy had a day full of activities. First thing was Drill training and then went on to do the bleep test.
Whilst some were doing the bleep test others had a go at using Blaze pods. These are lights which tests their speed, concentration and coordination skills, students had to tap the lights when they flashed and beat each other scores of the most taps.
Once lunch was over the students had First Aid Training and then to finish the day off they had Officer Safety Training. This involved Baton training using foam batons and PAVA training using water guns. As you can see the students are having a great time.

Today our Town Centre Team spent time at McDonalds on Evreux Way speaking with youngsters about the realities and potential consequences of knife crime..

We offered them the chance to experience our virtual reality knife crime video, which puts viewers inside a real-life scenario and shows the devastating impact carrying a knife can have.

One youngster described the video as “heartbreaking” and said it had taught him to never carry a knife. It’s moments like this that remind us why we do what we do.

If you have concerns about someone carrying a knife please report at www.optalkative.co.uk The information you provide could save a life and you don’t have to say who you are. Let’s keep our community safe, together 💙 1350
