We are working with key partners to ensure young people are unable to access the roof of the former Debenhams.

This comes after a small group of young people were able to access the roof on Thursday 22 October, putting themselves in danger.

A closure order on the site has been extended until November 20, which means anyone who breaks into the former building are committing a serious offence.

Those involved in last week's incident have been identified and their parents and guardians are being visited. Youth Injunctions are also being explored.

We are working with the site owners and Nottingham City Council to ensure the building is better secured.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, who manages city centre policing, said: "We have worked incredibly hard with our partners to ensure empty buildings like the former Debenhams cannot be accessed.

"They are extremely dangerous. Inside, they are structurally unsound and by scaling the roof you are quite literally putting your life on the line.

"Should you lose your footing and fall, or part of the building breaks, the result will be catastrophic.

"This is certainly not the news we want to be delivering to their parents or guardians. This is why it is vitally important parents have these conversations with their children. They are ultimately responsible for their behaviour.

"Unfortunately, even if we arrest these young people for entering the building, there are very little powers available to us as a police service to ensure they are punished.

"However, we are exploring youth injunctions which are designed to ensure young people have stringent conditions set by the courts which they cannot ignore.

"These can include curfews and not being allowed to enter parts of the city whilst also offering diversionary support to try and change the cycle of behaviour.

"The closure order has certainly limited the activity at Debenhams and for some time we saw no children or young people attempting to enter the site.

"We have identified further issues and access points which are now being addressed.

"Officers have been in touch with the managing agents and they are looking to further target harden the site, particularly the roof area.

"However, I cannot stress enough how important it is for parents and guardians to have these conversations with their children and explain these risks.

"We do not want to be reporting that someone has tragically lost their life due to behaviour which is completely avoidable."

We brought a shoplifter who repeatedly targeted city centre retailers before the courts after our officers managed to track them down.

McKenzie Hayes-Brown, 22, of Wordsworth Road, Bobbers Mill, was wanted in connection with 11 shop thefts committed between 16 August and 22 October.

The offences included nine thefts from Tesco Express stores and two from FOPP in Bridlesmith Gate.

Our officers spotted Hayes-Brown in Lower Parliament Street on Sunday (25 October) and swiftly arrested him.

He was subsequently charged with 11 counts of shoplifting and placed before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court the next day (Monday 26 October).

The court heard that Tesco Express stores in Upper Parliament Street, Maid Marian Way and the Victoria Centre were targeted, with Hayes-Brown stealing wh**ky, food, washing products and cleaning items. He also stole at least ÂŁ300 worth of Blu-ray discs from FOPP.

Hayes-Brown, who had been released from prison on licence on 12 October for previous offences, pleaded guilty to all charges and was handed a community order. He must also pay ÂŁ327 in compensation.

Sergeant Dean Lewis, of our neighbourhood policing team, said: “Shoplifting has a significant impact on local businesses, their staff and customers, and we are committed to identifying offenders and bringing them before the courts.

“Where individuals continue to offend after being released from prison, we will continue to take action. We cannot and will not tolerate criminality in the city centre.

“We remain committed to tackling retail crime head-on because we understand the harm it causes to businesses and the wider community.

“Reports from retailers and members of the public play a crucial role in helping us identify hotspots and trends, respond quickly and prevent further offences.

“Pursuing every appropriate line of enquiry to identify offenders, gather evidence, recover stolen property, locate and interview witnesses, and secure justice through the courts remains a priority for our officers.”

We are re-appealing for a wanted man after an assault outside a city centre pub.

Ian Doyle is wanted after he punched and pushed the victim outside The Lord Roberts in Broad Street, Nottingham at around 3:20pm on 8 July.

After extensive enquiries, we have so far been unable to trace him and are now asking the public for help.

Members of the public are urged to get in touch if they see or have information that could assist police in locating him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting 26*434142.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

The appeal forms part of Operation Reclaim, a multi-agency initiative focused on tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and making the city centre an increasingly hostile environment for offenders.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, who oversees neighbourhood policing in the city centre, said: "Working alongside our local partners, we are making excellent progress in driving criminals out of the city centre, with hundreds of arrests already made.

"However, we know there is still more work to do.

"We are often asked by members of the public how they can help keep their communities safe.

"Sharing information like this is invaluable in both preventing crime and helping us bring offenders to justice."

A number of people spent the night in custody and found themselves arrested on suspicion of affray after a fight broke out in the city centre.

The incident happened at 2.41am on Friday 23 October in St James' Street.

Nottingham City Council's CCTV team alerted our officers to the incident after a man was assaulted following an altercation outside a bar.

The victim was punched and kicked during the ordeal and has been sent to Queen's Medical Centre.

His condition is currently not believed to be life-threatening but he has sustained serious injuries to the head and nose. No weapons were used in the incident.

A number of people ran from the scene after the incident but were soon caught by our response officers.

Nine arrests have been made in total.

Four men, aged 22, two men, aged 19, one man, aged 45, one man aged 17, and one woman, aged 25, were arrested on suspicion of affray.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, who manages city centre policing, said: "This was a nasty and sustained attack by a large group of people following an altercation outside a bar.

"We simply will not tolerate violence in the city centre and that is why working with our colleagues in the city council we were able to apprehend nine suspects relatively quickly.

"If you come into the city centre to commit any sort of violence then we will use all the powers at our disposal to make sure you won't be allowed back in.

"The message couldn’t be clearer – our city centre CCTV is very good that you really don't have any place to hide, as this incident clearly demonstrates.

"The fast response from our officers not only ensured the victim was taken to hospital immediately, but we caught nine people in relation to this extremely serious offence."

This is all part of Operation Reclaim, a partnership approach to tackling the major problems affecting the city centre which includes violent incidents associated with the night-time economy.

An investigation is underway after three people were robbed of their mobile phones in and around Nottingham city centre.

Criminals have been using tactics such as 'asking to see your phone' or 'offering drugs' before snatching devices.

They will use threats of violence if victims refuse.

A man aged in his 40s was approached in Clumber Street by four men asking if he wanted any drugs, at 4am on 18 October.

He declined and continued to walk in the direction of Trinity Square, where they have intimidated him, kissed his face, and taken his mobile phone.

Later, he found that money had been taken from his bank account after apps were accessed on his phone.

Officers are also looking at two similar incidents where three to four men have used similar tactics in and around the city centre to take mobile phones over the last week.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, who leads policing in the city centre, said:

"Our intelligence suggests that this group are preying on people in the early hours of the morning, in and around the Clumber Street and Old Market Square area.

"While no members of the public have been seriously harmed, the intimidation has rightfully caused them to feel immensely distressed.

"This is an appalling crime. We carry our lives on our mobile phones.

"We are determined to catch this group as soon as possible. We have already launched an investigation and are building up a strong picture of who they are.

"We really want people to be vigilant, report any suspicious activity to us, and be conscious of your surroundings especially during Halloween.

"Remember, there is a 24-hour CCTV help point in Angel Row, near Old Market Square, with direct link to the control room if you need assistance quickly.

"We have informed both universities about this recent spate of crime and are working with them to ensure students are informed.

"Rest assured, we are doing everything we can to ensure they are caught."

We can now provide a further update on the investigation and the latest developments since Sunday morning.

Detectives investigating the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham city centre have been granted additional time to question a woman arrested in connection with the incident.

The officer suffered a gunshot wound to his foot after approaching a man and a woman at a bus stop in Angel Row at around 4.50am on Sunday 18 October.

Later that evening, officers stopped a vehicle in Radford and arrested its three occupants. Among them was a 27-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a fi***rm with intent to endanger life.

Today (Wednesday 21 October), Nottingham Magistrates' Court granted detectives a warrant of further detention, allowing them to continue questioning the suspect.

The vehicle's two other occupants, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

A 30-year-old man arrested in Bedfordshire during the early hours of Monday (19 October) was also questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.

Meanwhile, a fifth arrest was made on Tuesday (20 October) when a 21-year-old woman was detained in south-east London on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has now been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

On Wednesday afternoon (21 October), a 35-year-old man was arrested in Bulwell on suspicion of possession of a fi***rm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender.

A seventh person was then arrested during the evening of Wednesday (21 October) when a 33-year-old female was detained in Aspley also on suspicion of possession of a fi***rm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender. Both remain in custody.

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Bull, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

"The investigation team continues to work tirelessly to establish exactly what happened before, during and after this appalling incident. I would like to thank them, along with colleagues from other police forces, for their continued support and assistance.

"It remains crucial that anyone with information about this incident comes forward and speaks to us.

"The injured officer was carrying out his duty to protect the public and it is truly abhorrent that this has happened to him. We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and are keeping him and his family fully informed of developments in the investigation.

"We would also like to stress that the officer has requested privacy at this time, and we ask that the media respects that wish."

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call 101, quoting incident 106 of 18 October 2026. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Drug users shouted "go now" at a dealer as a plain-clothed officer approached them in Nottingham city centre.

The knife crime officer was taking part in latest Operation Reclaim patrols when he spotted a young person approach two drug users sat outside St Peter's Church.

After observing the person hold out an item covered in cling film, the officer suspected a drugs deal was taking place and so approached the group.

As the officer advanced, the drug users recognised him and shouted at the young person, "Go, go - go now!"

The suspected dealer was detained at the scene for a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Once detained, the covert officer was joined by uniformed officers and the suspect admitted having Class A drugs in his pocket, hands and underwear.

The officers seized the items – suspected to be crack co***ne and he**in – and arrested the 18-year-old on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

The teenager was questioned in custody and released on conditional bail while further investigation work is carried out.

This was one of 14 arrests made during the patrols on Wednesday last week (14 October) – the latest in a series of days of actions to clampdown on crime in the city centre.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, who oversees the city centre, said: "This latest day of action highlights our continued commitment to driving criminals out of the city centre.

"The results speak for themselves, with 14 arrests made in a single day.

"Through proactive patrols, targeted enforcement and close partnership working, we are disrupting criminal activity and making the city centre a safer place for everyone.

"Those who come into the city intending to commit crime should be under no illusion.

"We will continue to identify, target and relentlessly pursue those responsible.

"Operation Reclaim is a long-term commitment to tackling offending and improving public safety, and since its launch in April has led to more than 1,000 arrests.

"I hope this reassures the public and businesses that we are doing everything we can to make Nottingham city centre a safer place to live, work and visit."
