Our officers quickly arrested a burglary suspect when an intruder smashed his way into a shop when it was closed.
A 999 call came in about a burglary in progress in Sainsbury's, in Arnold, just before 4.15am on Friday (4 September).
Hearing an individual had used a metal rolling cage to smash the glass doors of the store in Sir John Robinson Way, officers made their way there.
A suspect was in handcuffs within a few minutes of that call, with officers arriving at the scene to find numerous bottles of alcohol had been smashed on the floor.
The 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage.
Having brought him into custody, officers then realised the man was also an outstanding suspect in another burglary in Nottingham city centre from a few days earlier.
This happened in Sainsbury's Local, Wheeler Gate, with an intruder forcing open a door before stealing cans of energy drink and meat products, in the early hours of Tuesday (1 September).
Having linked the 32-year-old suspect to that offence, he was further arrested for the second burglary.
PC Harry Ford said: "The officers who responded to this incident did a great job getting there so quickly and detaining a suspect.
"Commercial burglaries like this can cause great disruption and distress to those who work in the shops targeted, while also having a negative impact on the wider community.
"While nothing was ultimately taken in this instance, there were multiple examples of damage being caused within the building by the time officers arrived.
"Having identified and arrested a suspect when they did, the response officers in attendance also linked them to a separate break-in at another shop, so it was a good piece of police work all-round."
