Think... How would a drink driving conviction affect you and your life? 🤔

Hear from our experienced road traffic officer Sergeant Jim Carrington: He has breathalysed and arrested countless drivers over the years, and seen with his own eyes the shock, the shame and the immediate regret felt by offenders.

Here – he urges you to think about the dramatic effect a driving ban would have on your life… because a drink drive conviction can also kill your career, your relationships and your family life. ❌

"I honestly felt alright."

These are the words of a drink driver caught by officers after a road traffic collision.

The 25-year-old woman was arrested in Edwards Lane in the early hours of 26 June when she lost control and rolled her car onto its roof.

Thankfully, she was uninjured but did blow more than twice the legal limit.

During a full and frank admission to officers in interview, she admitted to drinking three to four bottles of lager during a work leaving do.

The driver admitted she'd been 'an idiot' and was later disqualified from driving for 20 months.

We are currently running a public awareness campaign on the everyday consequences of people losing their licence because of a drink-drive conviction, and the shame, embarrassment and inconvenience that comes with it.

🫵 How would a driving ban affect your life?

🏫 How would you get to work or take your children to school?

😦 How would your family or employer react?

These are questions we are currently asking drivers of all ages because drink driving also kills careers, relationships, and family lives.

A suspected drug dealer has been arrested after officers spotted a vehicle driving suspiciously in Bulwell.

Our Roads Policing team and Broxtowe Response team spotted the vehicle travelling on Cinderhill Road at 11.58pm on Sunday 23 August.

After stopping the car, our officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle, and upon further investigation, found evidence of cannabis use.

Upon further searching the vehicle, they also discovered a quantity of cash, as well as packets of co***ne stashed in the roof lining.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug (co***ne), driving without a licence, use of a motor vehicle on a road without third-party insurance, and drug driving.

The man has been released on unconditional bail pending further investigation.

Michael Grant, from our Roads Policing Team, said: "This arrest is all thanks to the amazing proactive work by our officers.

"Stopping the supply of drugs and taking these harmful substances off our streets is always a top priority for Nottinghamshire Police.

"Using their sharp instincts, these officers discovered the hidden stash in only minutes and made sure that these substances never find their way onto our streets.

"This arrest shows that we will continue to take proactive action against those involved in criminal activity and that attempts to hide illegal drugs will not stop us from finding them."

❓ Did you know, in 2025 there were 1,435 drink and drug driving offences in Nottinghamshire? 1,191 were male and 233 were female.

Remember, drink driving offences don't just include those who drive after the night out, it’s about whether you’re safe and fit to drive the next day too.

"I drive 40,000 miles a year"

These are the words of a young tradesman we caught drinking and driving after a night out with his mates.

Unfortunately for him, he won’t be driving anywhere for quite a while.

The 21-year-old came to our attention in Watnall Road, Hucknall, in the early hours of Sunday 19 July after performing a reckless overtake right in front of an unmarked police car.

After failing a breathalyser test, he was arrested, handcuffed, and later banned from driving for 14 months.

He'd never been in trouble with us before and thought he'd be okay after consuming four pints.

He wasn't and will now face some serious problems at work.

We are currently running a public awareness campaign on the everyday consequences of people losing their licence because of a drink-drive conviction, and the shame, embarrassment and inconvenience that comes with it.

Our next video shows a mum trying and failing to entertain her young child at home.

People who wouldn't dream of drink-driving can unknowingly find themselves over the limit the next day.

Remember, your body needs time to process alcohol.

If you've had a heavy night, the safest choice is not to drive the next day until you're certain the alcohol has left your system.
