Formerly known as VDACL/Venture Training. We advocate on behalf of and provide quality programs and services to people with developmental disabilities.

Serving our community since 1955. Vernon and District Association for Community Living is a non-profit, community based organization, serving persons with developmental disabilities in Vernon and the surrounding communities. Founded in 1955, VDACL is the oldest organization of its nature in Vernon. We serve over 200 participants, offer 13 distinct programs and employ over 70 qualified staff members.

A few double-doubles, and a lot of conversation. The group squeezed around a big table, ordered their usual, and talked until the cups were empty, and then a little longer.

A sunny fall afternoon at Davison Orchards , sharing the pumpkin patch with families and visitors from around the valley. Everyone took their time choosing pumpkins and gathered by the straw highland cow for a group photo before heading home with their picks.

Lining up a throw, waiting your turn, and cheering when someone else's frisbee drops: a lot of everyday skills fit into one round of disc golf. Across our 19 programs, the aim stays the same, which is independence, community involvement and real connections, built through activities people want to do.

A beautiful autumn afternoon at Davison Orchards with Cedar House

Between the wagon ride through the trees, apple picking, and visiting the goats, it was a lovely day on the farm. They also took a minute to enjoy the view overlooking the valley before heading home. A great October day for some fresh air.

The salmon are back in Coldstream Creek, so the ACT took a walk along the trail to see them and learn about their life cycle!

From the bridge, they had a clear view of the water, and further along the bank, a few of them counted the red salmon resting under fallen logs. The path was covered in autumn leaves, with plenty of room for walkers and mobility equipment.
If you haven't been out yet, now is a great time to visit!

October is full of celebrations around here! A throwback to Tristan turning 22, when friends and family stopped by to hang out, share a bite, open presents, and enjoy birthday cake. Do we have any other October birthdays in the community? Let us know in the comments! 🍰

ACT headed out to Tsútswecw Provincial Park for the Salute to the Sockeye Festival opening ceremony!

Everyone walked through the forest trail down to the creek to welcome the salmon to their spawning grounds for this "dominant year," which brings millions of fish every 4 years. It was an incredible experience listening to the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl ecw drumming, singing, smudging, and prayers along the water.

Thank you to The Adams River Salmon Society for hosting this special event.

We had such a blast catching up with the Vernon Vipers
, and of course, we couldn't pass up a photo-op with the Sniper, the mascot. Big smiles all around!
