Vernon Fire Rescue Services would like to remind residents that open burning for the season ends on April 30th, in accordance with Bylaw #5635.

All open burning must be fully extinguished by this date. Any burning beyond April 30th may result in fines and enforcement action.

As we move into warmer, drier conditions, preventing wildfires becomes a shared responsibility. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping keep our community safe.

For more information on burning regulations and fire safety, please visit the City of Vernon website.

Today, Vernon Fire Rescue Services joined our community in recognizing the National Day of Mourning; a time to remember and honour those who have lost their lives, been injured, or suffered illness due to workplace incidents.

We were proud to have Firefighter Sykes speak at the City of Vernon’s Day of Mourning Ceremony, sharing meaningful words on the importance of safety and commitment to a healthy workplace.

As first responders, we see firsthand the impact workplace incidents can have on families, coworkers, and the community. Today serves as a powerful reminder that every worker deserves to return home safely.

We stand in solidarity with all those affected and remain committed to promoting safety in everything we do.

Emergency Preparedness Week 2026 is May 3 to 9 👈

This year, the theme focuses on making community connections. When emergencies happen, we are “In it together.”

Building relationships today means you can count on the people around you for a better response and faster recovery ✔️

Ask yourself, are you more likely to help someone you know or someone you’ve never met?

Start by introducing yourself to someone new on your block, on your road, or in your apartment building. Little actions can go a long way 👈
