🌍 How can cities turn economic flows into local value and jobs? (
On , we look at how cities can harness growing economic flows to strengthen local businesses, create jobs and expand opportunities for young people and women.
In Tanzania, Enabel works through IncluCities, part of the EU-funded SASA Green and Smart Cities programme, to strengthen local economic ecosystems by connecting entrepreneurs with skills, finance, markets, institutions and the private sector.
📍 In Mwanza, this means looking beyond the city itself. As one of Tanzania’s fast-growing cities, Mwanza can build on its position on Lake Victoria and its links to the Central Corridor to connect local businesses and value chains to wider regional markets - helping local businesses tap into regional opportunities while creating more value and jobs locally.
♻️ The city’s resources are part of that opportunity. By reusing materials that would otherwise go to waste, circular approaches can generate new economic opportunities, connect entrepreneurs to new markets and reduce pressure on the urban environment and Lake Victoria.
Because cities create more local value when they connect people, businesses and resources, and link them to wider markets and opportunities.
