I love onboarding sessions, especially when they provide the opportunity to meet new colleagues. They are always a chance for me to share my vision, reflect on where we come from and where we are heading, but also to be inspired and hear feedback from colleagues.

It was great to meet this morning with colleagues from , , , , and . Different countries, different contexts, different challenges, but one organization: Enabel!

We convene. We unite. And while today we strive to deliver the best possible results, perhaps the most important result of all is connecting people. At the end of the day, we all live on the same planet, and building understanding across borders is at the heart of what we do.

Merci Emmanuel Huet des Editions de l'Avenir pour cet article sur notre vision de la coopération intérnationale.

Depuis plusieurs années, je m'efforce de démontrer que la coopération internationale n'est pas de la charité. C'est un investissement dans notre avenir commun. Cet article résume très bien cette vision, qui est également celle de notre Ministre des Affaires étrangères Maxime Prévot.

Il est temps de dépasser la logique traditionnelle Nord-Sud pour construire de véritables partenariats fondés sur des intérêts mutuels, le respect et la confiance. L'Afrique n'est pas seulement un continent d'opportunités : elle est aussi une partie essentielle de l'avenir de l'Europe.

A free and independent press is more important than ever! In today's polarized environment, where disinformation, AI-generated fake news, and extremist narratives increasingly shape public debate, trustworthy journalism remains essential to informed citizenship and healthy democracies.

Enabel itself is not immune to misinformation. We have recently experienced firsthand how false information can spread and have consequences that extend well beyond our organization.

This is why we were proud to support the Europe MédiaLab (Stars4Media) initiative on Wednesday evening on independant media as Europe's democracy infrastructure. The event brought together EU journalists, European and Belgian diplomats, policymakers, social media entrepreneurs, and leading voices from the European tech ecosystem.

I was honoured to join the opening speakers alongside Victor NEGRESCU, Vice-President of the European Parliament, Alberto Fernández-Díez from Commissioner Marta Kos' Cabinet, Ambassador Tigran Balayan of hashtag to the EU, and Angelica Munteanu, Minister-Counsellor of hashtag to the EU.

The evening highlighted the vital role of independent journalism and trusted European digital platforms in strengthening Europe's information space and democratic resilience.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributes every day to defending facts, trust, and informed public debate. As I said in my opening speech: "We need people who dare to resist, dare to tell the truth, and dare to go against the flow."

In a world marked by shifting geopolitical dynamics and the emergence of a new global order, Morocco is increasingly positioning itself as a strategic bridge between Africa and Europe. Its growing role as a hub for investment, connectivity, innovation and South-South cooperation makes it a key partner for addressing shared development challenges and creating new opportunities across the African continent.

In this context, I was very pleased to sign yesterday a new Memorandum of Understanding between Enabel and the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (Agence Marocaine de Coopération Internationale), marking an important new chapter in a partnership that has been growing for more than 20 years.

The signing concluded two inspiring days of exchanges in Brussels on the future of triangular cooperation between Europe, Morocco and African partner countries. Together with experts, practitioners and policymakers, we explored concrete opportunities in three strategic areas: entrepreneurship and economic inclusion, human mobility and employability, and transport and logistics corridors.

In a rapidly changing international environment, triangular cooperation offers a powerful model to combine expertise, networks and resources in support of shared development ambitions. The discussions confirmed the strong potential of bringing together Moroccan, Belgian, European and African partners to co-create solutions that are rooted in local realities while responding to global challenges.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mohamed METHQAL, CEO of ACMI for his leadership, vision and longstanding commitment to strengthening cooperation between Africa and Europe.

As I often say, cooperation between Africa and Europe must be more firmly focused on our shared socioeconomic opportunities and challenges. In this regard, plays a pivotal role.

In the framework of the visit this week of Mr. Mohamed METHQAL, Director General of the AMCI - Agence Marocaine de Coopération Internationale, for discussions on triangular cooperation between Belgium, Morocco and Africa, I was delighted to meet Mohamed BACHIRI, Vice President of the CGEM, the federation of Morrocan enterprises, and Managing Director of RENAULT MAROC, together with my colleague benoit legrand.

We had an excellent exchange on the development of Afro-European value chains and on the role an agency such as Enabel can play in supporting and strengthening them.

More convinced than ever that our common future lies there: in balanced partnerships that create opportunities, prosperity and shared value for both Africa and Europe.

One of the greatest challenges of our time is creating hope and opportunity for young people. Across the globe, too many young people are growing up in environments marked by uncertainty, inequality, conflict, polarization, or limited economic prospects.

This challenge is not limited to developing countries. It concerns every country in the world, including Belgium. The current socio-economic and political climate is not always inspiring for younger generations. Many struggle to see a clear path forward and question whether they will enjoy greater opportunities than those who came before them. Many also lack a compelling vision of where our societies are heading and what future we are collectively trying to build.

This is why I was particularly pleased to welcome Mahmoud Noor Mohamed to our offices yesterday, together with Olivier Van Eynde, CEO of Close the Gap Circular, Kristien Verbrugghen, Director of VLIRUOS and my colleague Evelien Masschelein.

Mahmoud, widely known as Mentor 001, has dedicated his life to unlocking the potential of young people. Through Swahilipot Hub Foundation in Mombasa, he has created a vibrant ecosystem where youth develop digital skills, nurture their creativity, launch businesses, and gain the confidence to shape their future.

Our discussion reinforced my conviction that development cooperation is no longer primarily about a North-South relationship. It is about bringing people together across borders, generations, and sectors. It is about connecting talent, ideas, and energy to co-create innovative solutions for the challenges of our time. Most importantly, it is about building new social visions that can inspire people and restore confidence in the future.

The challenges we face are global, but so is the creativity and determination needed to address them. By investing in young people and creating spaces where they can learn, innovate, and lead, we invest in a more hopeful and resilient world.

Thank you, Mahmoud, Olivier, and Kristien, for this inspiring exchange. Conversations like these remind us that hope is not created through words alone. It is built through action, partnership, and a shared commitment to the next generation.

Face aux bouleversements géopolitiques actuels, l'Europe doit parler d'une voix plus forte et agir de manière plus coordonnée. Les défis globaux, qu'ils soient économiques, climatiques ou sociaux, ne peuvent être résolus dans l'isolement.

Très heureux d'avoir rencontré vendredi à Paris, ensemble avec Anke Van Lancker, le nouveau Directeur général de l'Agence Française de Développement, Christophe Lecourtier, aux côtés de Jeremie Pellet, DG d'Expertise France, et de Quiterie Pincent, directrice des partenariats.

Nous avons notamment échangé sur un sujet stratégique : le lien entre la réindustrialisation de l'Europe et l'industrialisation de l'Afrique. Loin d'être opposées, ces ambitions se renforcent mutuellement. Leur réussite dépend de notre capacité à développer ensemble des chaînes de valeur plus résilientes, plus durables et plus inclusives.

Je reviens de Paris le cœur et l'esprit remplis d'espoir. Très heureux d'avoir participé hier à à l'Université Sorbonne Nouvelle.

Je tiens à saluer cette belle initiative qui ouvre le monde de la diplomatie aux étudiants, aux ONG et à de nombreux autres acteurs qui ne font pas traditionnellement partie du cercle diplomatique. Dans le monde d'aujourd'hui, la diplomatie n'est clairement plus le monopole des diplomates. Elle doit s'ouvrir davantage et intégrer une diversité de voix, d'expériences et d'expertises.

Le débat auquel j'ai participé sur les peuples autochtones face au changement climatique et à la perte de biodiversité a illustré avec force une réalité essentielle : aucun acteur ne peut relever seul les défis de notre époque. Merci à mes co-panelistes Eriki Miller Lima Luiz Paiva, Edmond Dounias de l'IRD, Ana Pastor de EN TERRE INDIGENE et Lionel FABRE du Ministère des Affaires étrangères français, sous la modération de Marion Daugeard du GRET.

Un grand merci à l'Ambassadeur Jo Indekeu, à Anke Van Lancker et à Maxime Gillet pour m'avoir associé à cette discussion passionnante.

Je rentre à Bruxelles avec de nouvelles idées, beaucoup d'énergie et une conviction renouvelée : c'est en écoutant davantage, en coopérant davantage et en faisant une place à celles et ceux qui ont longtemps été tenus à l'écart des débats que nous pourrons relever les grands défis de notre temps.

Bravo également à la Sorbonne Nouvelle et à son magnifique campus conçu par l'architecte Christian De Portzamparc. Son architecture reflète parfaitement l'ambition et la vision d'une institution tournée vers l'avenir

If we want to address the immense challenges of our time, from climate change and inequality to peace, stability and economic opportunity, we need to do much more to engage younger generations. Not only as future leaders, but as partners today.

In this context, yesterday evening at the Belgian Embassy in Paris, I had the pleasure of joining Anke Van Lancker, Alexandre Pointier and Dries Paesen for a rich discussion with students from leading universities of Paris on the future of international cooperation: why it matters, what needs to change, and how we can make it more relevant and impactful in today's world.

Great engagement with the students from Sciences Po, HEC Paris and INSEAD about the role they can play. International cooperation needs fresh ideas, new energy and a renewed sense of purpose. The next generation is ready to contribute. Our responsibility is to create the space for them to shape the agenda and help build solutions that are both ambitious and realistic.

Thank you to the Ambassade de Belgique à Paris for hosting this inspiring exchange and to all the students whose enthusiasm reminds us why this work matters.

J'ai eu le plaisir d'échanger aujourd'hui avec Ghizlane Kounda pour un podcast qui sera diffusé à la fin du mois sur la RTBF.

Notre conversation a porté sur les évolutions récentes de la coopération internationale, sur les bouleversements que traverse notre monde et sur la nécessité de construire un récit plus équilibré et plus ambitieux sur l'Afrique. Trop souvent, le regard porté sur le continent se limite à ses défis. Pourtant, l'Afrique est aussi un continent d'opportunités, d'innovation, de créativité, de résilience et d'espoir. C'est là que se construisent déjà de nombreuses solutions aux grands défis de demain.

Nous avons également évoqué le rôle qu'Enabel joue comme catalyseur d'investissements privés. Dans de nombreux pays, nous contribuons à créer les conditions qui permettent aux entrepreneurs, aux investisseurs et aux institutions financières d'investir avec confiance. Enabel agit comme un pont entre les acteurs publics, le secteur privé et les partenaires financiers afin de transformer des opportunités en projets concrets, créateurs d'emplois, de valeur ajoutée et de perspectives pour les populations.

Cet échange m'a également rappelé à quel point un journalisme de qualité est indispensable aujourd'hui. Dans un environnement marqué par l'accélération permanente de l'information, la recherche du sensationnel et la multiplication des opinions instantanées, il devient de plus en plus difficile de prendre le temps d'aller au fond des enjeux. Pourtant, les grandes questions de notre époque, qu'il s'agisse de la coopération internationale, des migrations, du climat, de la sécurité ou des transformations économiques, méritent mieux que des slogans ou des analyses superficielles. Elles exigent de la nuance, du contexte, de la rigueur et une réelle volonté de comprendre la complexité du monde.

C'est aussi pour cela que je suis convaincu de l'importance croissante des podcasts. Dans un univers médiatique souvent dominé par l'immédiateté, ils offrent un espace rare pour approfondir une réflexion, confronter des points de vue, explorer les nuances et donner le temps nécessaire à la compréhension. Ils permettent d'aller au-delà des raccourcis et de redonner toute leur place à l'écoute et au dialogue, deux qualités dont nos sociétés ont un besoin criant.

Bravo à la RTBF, qui continue à investir dans un journalisme exigeant et de qualité. À l'heure où le populisme, la désinformation et les simplifications excessives gagnent du terrain, cette mission est plus précieuse que jamais.

Une démocratie forte a besoin de citoyens bien informés, mais aussi de médias capables d'éclairer les enjeux plutôt que de les caricaturer.

Merci à Ghizlane Kounda pour cet échange riche et stimulant. J'ai hâte de découvrir le résultat final et de poursuivre ces conversations qui nous aident à mieux comprendre le monde, dans toute sa complexité, mais aussi dans toutes les opportunités qu'il offre.
