📣 ID Connect is coming to Toowoomba!

▶️ Over two days, ID Connect will bring a range of essential services together in one place to help people sort out practical identification and documentation barriers.

Support will include things like birth certificates, driver licensing and other essential services that can make it easier to access employment, training and everyday services.

This event will have a strong focus on supporting First Nations people and communities, while remaining open to anyone who may benefit from the services available.

☑️ QUEENSLAND TRAINING PRIORITIES: The Queensland Government has released its Training Priorities Plan 2026–27, outlining more than $1.6 billion in training investment across the state.

📍 For regional Queensland, this includes investment in access to training, mobile delivery and future energy training hubs, including in Roma and Warwick.

The plan focuses on closing skills gaps, creating career pathways and supporting training that responds to industry and regional workforce needs.

💻 The Department of Trade Employment and Training is hosting an online webinar on Thursday 10 September at 10.30am, covering the plan, priority industries and workforce areas, and opportunities for industry, training providers and other organisations to get involved.

BEYOND SURVIVAL JOBS: The latest Diverse Workforce Roundtable focused on how we better recognise the skills, experience and qualifications migrants and refugees already bring, and help people move into work that better matches their capabilities.

☑️ We were fortunate to be joined by Sally Baker, Founder & CEO of Refugee Education Australia , who led a practical session using REA’s GROWTH, Pathfinder and RPL resources.

🌏 The discussion covered skills and aspirations, recognition of prior learning, education and career pathways, and some of the barriers that can make it difficult for people to move into suitable work.

Renee King and Ken Dachi from Welcoming Australia also contributed to the session, with Ken sharing practical insights from the Welcoming Workplaces program across Toowoomba and the Western Downs.

↔️ Plenty of useful discussion about how community, services and industry can work together to create clearer pathways into meaningful employment.

TOOWOOMBA JOBS EXPO 👏

The Goods Shed was packed for last week's Toowoomba Jobs Expo, with a huge turnout and fantastic engagement from across the community.

Job seekers, people considering a career change, employers, training providers and services came together to make connections and explore local jobs, training and career pathways.

👏 Workforce Australia Local Jobs Darling Downs was proud to support the fabulous job done by the Darling Downs South West team from the Department of Trade, Employment and Training Skills for Queensland in bringing such a large event together.

A big thank you to all the stallholders who took part, and to everyone who came along and made the most of the day.

👏 Today we say farewell to David New after four years as Job Coordinator for Workforce Australia Local Jobs in the Darling Downs.

A big thank you to David for his work across the region, bringing together employers, service providers, industry and community organisations to tackle local workforce challenges.
