A BETTER LIFESTYLE THROUGH A STRONGER ECONOMY
Regional Queensland power prices to fall, proof Energy Roadmap delivering

Treasurer, Minister for Energy and Minister for Home Ownership
The Honourable David Janetzki

โ€ข Households and small businesses in regional Queensland to see some of the largest drops in a decade, under the Crisafulli Government.
โ€ข Power costs to fall by around 7 per cent for regional households and more than 8 per cent for small businesses.
โ€ข Treasurer directs Ergon Energy to pass on savings in full for regional Queenslanders.
โ€ข The Crisafulli Governmentโ€™s Energy Roadmap driving down power prices for regional Queenslanders, after they skyrocketed 28.7 per cent in a single year under the former Labor Government.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering cheaper power costs for regional Queenslanders with households and small businesses to receive one of the largest drops in a decade.

The Queensland Competition Authorityโ€™s (QCA) final determination has confirmed electricity costs will drop by up to 6.9 per cent for regional households and 8.1 per cent for small businesses from 1 July.

The QCA notes higher availability of Queensland coal generators, lower gas prices, and growing investment in batteries and renewables are driving down power bills for Queenslanders.

Following the QCA's determination, Treasurer and Minister for Energy David Janetzki has directed Government-owned Ergon Energy to pass on the savings in full to regional households and small businesses.

This follows the Australian Energy Regulatorโ€™s final Default Market Offer, which delivered price falls between 7.2 and 10.7 per cent for South East Queensland households and between 10.4 and 14 per cent for small businesses - the largest bill reductions in over a decade.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for Queenslanders, after power bills skyrocketed under the former Labor Government.

Treasurer Janetzki said the Crisafulli Government was putting downward pressure on regional Queenslandersโ€™ power bills.

โ€œRegional Queenslanders have been under pressure from rising power costs for too long due to Laborโ€™s failures. Itโ€™s only right if the cost of energy falls, bills should too,โ€ Treasurer Janetzki said.

โ€œWhat weโ€™re now seeing is the result of the Crisafulli Government taking a balanced, disciplined approach to energy improving what we have while we build what we need for the future.

โ€œOur Roadmap backs a pragmatic approach with coal for longer, more gas, and private sector investment into renewables and storage underpinning an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy system.

โ€œIt delivers $1035 in avoided costs for households that would have been incurred under the former Labor Governmentโ€™s hoax Energy and Jobs Plan.

โ€œAt a time when Queenslandersโ€™ hip pockets are feeling the pressure of a national affordability crisis, a drop in power bills is real, tangible, structural cost-of-living relief in contrast to Laborโ€™s 28.7 per cent power increase in regional Queensland the year after their Energy and Jobs Plan was released.โ€

As Queenslandโ€™s economic regulator, the QCA sets the regulated retail electricity price for regional Queensland each year.

South West Betterment projects progress to detailed design

JOINT STATEMENT

Minister for Emergency Management
The Honourable Kristy McBain

Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Brent Mickelberg

โ€ข Detailed design contracts have been awarded for three major projects to improve the resilience of south-western Queensland roads.
โ€ข The projects are part of a $155 million jointly funded infrastructure Betterment package for western Queensland roads hit hard by the 2025 floods.
โ€ข A total of six priority sites will be built back better to reduce future flood damage and maintain access to essential services and supply routes.

Three key projects to strengthen flood resilience on critical supply routes in south-western Queensland are progressing to detailed design.

This important phase of work will see concept plans refined into detailed construction designs for projects at Bulloo Developmental Road (Cunnamullaโ€“Thargomindah) at Paroo River Bridge, Eulo, Quilpieโ€“Thargomindah Road at South Comongin Crossing and Balonne Highway at Wallam Creek, Bollon.

The extraordinary disaster assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

The Paroo River Bridge at Eulo, which currently closes for an average of 10 days each year due to flooding, will be replaced with a higher bridge and road approach to reduce closure times.

Quilpieโ€“Thargomindah Road, where the South Comongin Crossing can be cut for more than seven weeks each year due to flooding, will see the crossing and approach levels raised to significantly reduce the annual closure duration.

Major drainage improvements at Wallam Creek at Bollon on the Balonne Highway will improve the resilience of this critical freight and tourism route connecting St George to the regional centre of Cunnamulla.

Detailed design on the Balonne Highway betterment project is expected to be completed in mid-2026, with designs for the other two projects due for completion in late 2026.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said the Albanese Government supports projects that strengthen resilience.

โ€œThe Albanese Government is committed to providing support that improves disaster resilience to the regions that need it,โ€ Minister McBain said.

"We will continue to work closely with the Queensland Government to ensure that when we help disaster affected communities recover, we make them stronger for the future."

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said it's important flood-impacted communities have resilient road corridors.

โ€œAs we continue to deal with further flooding this season, the Crisafulli Government understands the importance of supporting western Queensland communities to recover quickly,โ€ Minister Mickelberg said.

โ€œWeโ€™re also committed to working with the Australian Government to build back better where we can.

โ€œDuring my recent visit to the region, the common theme from locals I spoke to was they were eagerly awaiting upgrades on these critical road corridors. These roads are the lifeline of these communities, and our aim is to make them more resilient to future flooding.

โ€œIโ€™m confident these upgrades will assist in ensuring these regional road assets are fit for purpose to enable reliable access, timely evacuations and the delivery of critical supplies during and after adverse weather events.โ€

Federal Assistant Minister for Regional Development Senator Anthony Chisholm said these projects had been selected to deliver the most benefit to drivers and freight operators.

โ€œLocals in Western Queensland know these roads well, and theyโ€™re often the first to deal with the consequences when a local bridge or road is cut off due to flooding.

โ€œThis package of work has been designed to make travel safer and roads more reliable for families, truckies, workers and visitors in Western Queensland.

โ€œAlongside the Queensland Government, weโ€™re building stronger infrastructure for Queenslanders and making sure weโ€™re better prepared for natural disasters in the future.โ€

For more information visit address to be provided for Bulloo Developmental Road (Cunnamullaโ€“Thargomindah) at Paroo River Bridge, Eulo.
