Today is World Refugee Day!

Our Region has proudly been a Refugee Welcome Zone since 2013, an initiative of the Refugee Council of Australia.

We've demonstrated a long-standing commitment to inclusion and belonging and continue to recognise and celebrate the valuable contributions that refugees bring to our Region.

Today is about honouring the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.

🚦Today is Fatality Free Friday.

This day is an important reminder that safer choices on our roads can make a real difference for ourselves, our families and our community.

Every year, lives are lost or changed forever in road crashes.

Today, take a moment to slow down, stay alert and look out for each other. Because no journey is more important than getting home safely.

Remember to drive safely this Fatality Free Friday.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for DAMAGING WINDS

For people in parts of Southern Downs, Western Downs and Toowoomba Council Areas.

Issued at 2:15 pm Thursday, 28 May 2026.

Damaging winds with storms over the Darling Downs.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:10 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds were detected near the area south of Dalby, the area southeast of Dalby and the area northeast of Dalby. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Pittsworth, Kincora and the area west of Toowoomba by 2:40 pm and the area southwest of Toowoomba, Leyburn and Ellangowan by 3:10 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts. Other warnings may be current.
