Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal, including members of our local Nepalese community who may have family, friends and loved ones affected by the recent floods and landslides.

This tragedy has caused widespread devastation and we recognise that many people in our region may be concerned for those they care about.

If you are seeking information about loved ones in Nepal, please contact the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135 (within Australia) or +61 2 6261 3305 (from overseas).

Those wishing to support relief and recovery efforts can do so through the Australian Red Cross Global Emergency Appeal: https://www.redcross.org.au/global-emergency, or the UNICEF, for every child: https://www.unicef.org

For anyone finding news of this tragedy distressing or emotionally challenging, support is available through Lifeline on 13 11 14 or via https://www.lifeline.org.au.

To the members of our Nepalese community and all those with family and friends affected, please know that you are in our thoughts. We wish you strength, comfort and support in the days ahead.

Today is Australian National Flag Day, marking 125 years since the first official flying of the Australian National Flag following Federation in 1901.

Here in the Toowoomba Region, one of the most recognisable displays of our National Flag can be found at Picnic Point, where it proudly flies above the escarpment on a 45-metre flagpole. One of the largest flags in Australia, it has become an iconic landmark for locals and visitors.

As we mark this milestone, we reflect on the history of our National Flag and the role it continues to play as a symbol of our nation and community.
