The 2026 Census is coming on Tuesday 11 August — and it’s more important for the Whitsundays than many people realise.

The Census helps governments and organisations understand who lives in our region, how our communities are growing and what infrastructure and services are needed into the future.

That includes things like:

✔ Roads and transport
✔ Healthcare and emergency services
✔ Schools and childcare
✔ Sporting and community facilities
✔ Housing and infrastructure planning

For fast-growing regional areas like the Whitsundays, having accurate data matters.

Every household counted helps ensure our region is properly recognised and planned for in the years ahead.

🚧 Build Whitsunday - Preliminary Works Starting Soon 🚧

Residents may notice preliminary investigation and design works underway across Bowen South, Cannon Valley and Proserpine over the next three weeks as part of the Build Whitsunday Regional Water and Sewer Network Upgrade project.

These early works will include surveying, service locating and potholing activities to support future infrastructure upgrades that will help unlock new housing opportunities across the region.

Traffic management may be in place at times and we thank residents for their patience.

This project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through the Residential Activation Fund.
