As part of the Regional and Resources Towns Action Plan the Queensland Government recommended that Council immediately action the development of a master plan and feasibility study for the Whitsunday Coast Airport.

The purpose of the master plan is to identify and quantify the key economic drivers, opportunities and risks influencing potential expansion of the airport and adjacent lands.

The plan will also identify the financial investment required to deliver the master plan and will lay the groundwork for Council to engage with potential investors.

Council to work with State and Federal Governments to address overcrowding in Bowen

Whitsunday Regional Council yesterday resolved to work with both the State and Federal Governments to address issues of overcrowding in some share houses in Bowen.

Issues relating to overcrowding in Bowen share houses, particular in relation to the fruit picking industry, have been of concern to Council for some time.

Council has very limited powers when it comes to entry to private properties and dealing with this complex issue, which is why Council will now work with all levels of government to address this potentially life threatening issue.

School students visit Water and Sewage Treatment Plants

Whitsunday Regional Council today trialled the first school visit to the Proserpine Water Treatment Plant and Cannonvale Sewage Treatment Plant, as part of a broader education program of Council’s water and sewage infrastructure.

48 students from Year 7 at St Catherine’s Catholic College today visited both plants to learn more about how their water is delivered and how their waste is processed.

Council and ultimately the community have recently spent $108 million on new Water and Sewage Treatment Plants, which include state-of-the-art technology, and it’s important that school students and members of the community get to see these plants at work
