🪫 Brooklyn Boat responded to its 5th fire call yesterday morning, skippered by the Brookie crew to a Vessel Fire off Bobbin Head caused by smouldering batteries below deck.

🛥️ Crews in breathing apparatus from Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Service Northern Beaches Rural Fire District and Fire and Rescue NSW brought the vessel to berth at the marina and removed and cooled the batteries, avoiding further damage. Three marine staff extinguished the fire before crews arrived and were treated by NSW Ambulance for fume inhalation.

Maybe you’re similar to a lot of our brigade and are keen to learn new skills while giving back to the community you love. Maybe you’re just wondering what it’s like driving the big red trucks… 🚒

Whatever your reason - Brooklyn Rural Fire Brigade is recruiting ahead of this year’s bushfire season, and we’re calling all new and old Brookie friends to come down to the station at 7pm 30th of June to learn more about how you can contribute to the 80+ years of history behind Brooklyn Rural Fire Brigade 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

🛥️ Over the weekend we said farewell to Brooklyn’s Fire Boat as we welcomed its replacement. The New Brooklyn Fire Boat.

🏝️ Having served Brooklyn and our surrounding river communities for over 30 years, hundreds of call-outs and some of the toughest incidents we’ve faced over the years, the Brooklyn fire boat has played an important role in protecting our community.

⚓ The New Brooklyn Fire Boat brings with it an enormous uplift in marine based firefighting capability, not only for the town of Brooklyn, but all surrounding Hawkesbury river communities and even as far as Pittwater, Brisbane Waters and the Hills.

👀 You'll see us out on the river a bit more this month, learning the ropes with our new boat and training to protect the people, places and assets that make the lower Hawkesbury so special. Give us a wave, and keep a look out for our upcoming recruitment drive if you're interested in joining us on the river this upcoming bushfire season 👋

This photo is a reminder that every journey starts somewhere.

This week, Declan McLerie, who first walked through the gates of the Terrey Hills Brigade Open Day as a child in the early 2000s, was elected captain of the brigade. What started as a fascination with fire trucks and firefighters has grown into a lifelong commitment to the RFS and communities across NSW.

Across Australia, countless organisations depend on volunteers. Whether it’s emergency services, sporting clubs, community groups or charities, you’ll often find volunteers are the backbone of these organisations. They give their time, skills and energy to make a difference, with no expectation of recognition.

🚒 Brooklyn Brigade crews attended a truck fire on the M1 last week, one of several incidents keeping our volunteers on their toes. We’re lucky to have such a committed crew keeping the community safe and keeping the M1 moving alongside Berowra Rural Fire Brigade and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 075 Berowra.

📣 Being a small community, every helping hand counts. Keep an ear out in coming weeks if you're interested in learning more about what we do and how you can help out ahead of this year’s upcoming bushfire season.
