The Quarry Road Hazard Reduction by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is well underway. Today lots of burning was undertaken along the ridge line behind Hornsby Heights. You may see fire and smoke for the next few days. Due to favourable weather more burning is being planed by a number of agencies over the next week.

This 389 Ha Hazard Reduction should be highly visible from the Hornsby / Hornsby Heights / Asquith areas. Whilst its "officially" in Dural, it is right across the valley. With NW and W winds over next few days, our area will be impacted by smoke. Hopefully everyone got their washing done today (or first thing in the morning!) Whilst it can be an inconvenience, the Aussie bush needs fire to regenerate and thrive. Please take precautions and keep your windows and doors closed and reduce out door activities for those with lung conditions.

πŸŽ…πŸŽ„ Thank you Asquith and Hornsby!! πŸš’πŸ”₯

We had a blast doing our Santa Run on Saturday! We loved seeing all the smiling kids, the community street parties, handwritten cards and decorated houses, so thank you for your turnout!

For those that are already looking forward to the next one, we'll traditionally hold our Santa Run on the Saturday directly before Christmas (so for next year that's going to be Saturday 19th Dec).

Some of our favourite pics below! Santa proved to be quite popular with the canines this year πŸ‘‡

A reminder that our East Asquith and West Hornsby Santa Run is this Saturday (20th December)!
πŸ•˜ The route and times are on the attached maps. Please pay special attention to the times as we have changed them from previous years!
πŸŽ„ We'll be stopping at 4 parks along the way, so you'll have the chance to meet Santa, explore the fire trucks and have a go on the fire hose!
🍬 We'll be throwing lollies from the trucks, please make sure children are safe around our vehicles as we pass. If we're driving down a cul-de-sac we'll be throwing lollies only on the way out (so stick around)!

πŸ”₯ Bush Fire - Emu Place, Hornsby Heights πŸ”₯
Last night at 11:55PM we responded both our trucks to a report of a bushfire in Emu Place, Hornsby Heights. We arrived first on scene and investigated along the Waninga fire trail. We discovered an approximate 50m x 10m bushfire burning 20 metres from the trail and below a cliff.

Due to the cliff, access to the fire proved to be challenging and so crews from Hornsby Heights Rural Fire Brigade, Berowra Rural Fire Brigade, Westleigh Rural Fire Brigade, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 075 Berowra and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 050 Hornsby were called upon to assist. The fire was declared fully extinguished just after 2:30AM.

It was also great to see some local residents were up and alert after receiving the notification of the fire on the Hazards Near Me app. Thanks to all brigades and members for their assistance! Crews will be out again today to patrol the fire.

Busy weekend for our brigade with a HR in Central Coast District at Cheero Point on Friday. This was followed up with 4 incident calls ranging from HR re-ignitions to assist ambulance and β€œnon event” truck fires across the weekend. Thanks to all that gave up their time!

Today Hornsby 1 helped out FRNSW, NPWS, Ku-ring-Gai council and other RFS crews with a hazard reduction in South Turramurra. Good weather should see more hazard reductions in coming weeks.

Early this morning at 3:45AM we were responded to a truck fire at the start of the M1 at Wahroonga along with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 050 Hornsby, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 037 Gordon and Belrose Rural Fire Brigade (on the Northern Beaches Flyer). We supplied water to the FRNSW units and managed traffic. Thankfully the fire was limited to the exterior of the trailer and it did not take hold in the cargo inside.

This week we helped out with both our trucks across across three shifts with hazard reductions (HRs) in Pennant Hills and Berowra. This time of year we see increased hazard reduction activity as the weather is conducive to burning. If the rain stays away, it is likely there will be more HRs in coming weeks. Thank you to our crews for taking time off work and families to help out.
