To unlock the money for states and to dial down the distractions for children, Congress must pass my Parents Over Platforms Act. This bipartisan, bicameral bill establishes age assurance at the firmware level while protecting privacy. Without that protocol, the money and the measures that Meta has promised will melt away.

A landmark agreement both reshapes Instagram and Facebook for teenagers, and adds fuel to legislative debate about permanent reforms.

With visits to Freetown, Berkley and Lakeville, I completed my annual calendar-year circuit of each of the 35 cities & towns that I represent. I conducted Q&A sessions at the Freetown Council on Aging and the Lakeville Center for Active Living, while in Berkley I reviewed education & infrastructure priorities with town leadership, including walking a pedestrian pathway to connect the middle school with the town common for which I have earmarked federal funding.

The biggest city I represent – Fall River – voted for Donald Trump in 2024, while in the second biggest city – Newton – 3 out of 4 voters chose Kamala Harris. There are even bluer & redder pockets throughout. I engage with constituents who have sharply different opinions about MAGA, immigration, guns, taxes, health care, Israel and much else besides. I have spoken in hundreds of rooms over the last 6 years, and have yet to find one where everyone agrees with everything I say. But I always seek to listen with curiosity, explain based on shared values and candid trade-offs, and avoid abstractions in favor of specific deliverables.

In Mansfield, pharmaceutical fulfillment supports more than 100 warehouse & maintenance jobs. Cencora is a large pharmaceutical solutions & supply-chain company, and I visited its Mansfield warehouse to meet with the people who keep it running. I asked about the impact of robotics on fulfillment operations and learned about European warehouses that are automating inventory management, which is leading to new jobs in maintenance & repair.

I also toured new construction of cold-chain storage, largely driven by the increased demand for GLP-1 injectables that is spurring Cencora to invest $1 billion over the next five years in specialized distribution. New medicines = new jobs.

Immigrants make up about 21 percent of the nursing home workforce, with many in direct care roles such as certified nursing assistants (CNAs), nurses, dietary aides, and housekeepers. I met with the CEO of Hebrew SeniorLife, a housing & healthcare provider for elders, and then conducted a Q&A with residents to discuss immigration, health care costs, and their interplay. This administration's revocation of Haitians' temporary protected status (TPS) is not just cruel but also costly, particularly for elder services. Democrats in the House of Representatives outmaneuvered Speaker Johnson to extend TPS for Haiti; now onto the Senate.

BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha is a Hindu denomination that is growing along with the Indian community in Massachusetts. BAPS combines traditional religious practice with extensive volunteerism and youth & family programming, and it operates Hindu temples and community centers throughout the United States. I visited the Sharon mandir (temple) to meet with its leadership, learn about their faith tradition and programming, and discuss their policy priorities. I'm grateful for their warm welcome and look forward to more time together.

Every 10 biotech jobs created generates another 16 non-biotech jobs. Massachusetts federal & state leaders must work together to oppose & overcome Trump's anti-science agenda. Not only therapies for patients around the world, but jobs right here at home, are in the balance. I'm committed to working with the governor & LG + federal delegation to set funding, regulatory, and reimbursement policy for a thriving science & medicine sector.

By 2033, there will be 16 million middle-income seniors, who do not qualify for subsidized housing but cannot afford continuum-of-care living. Enter Opus Newton, the first project in the nation to address this 'forgotten middle.' I joined the ribbon-cutting to celebrate 2Life CEO Amy Schectman's inspiring vision & indomitable ex*****on to bring Opus from dream to reality. Not only does the project provide middle-income seniors with affordable housing, social connection, and health care access, but it also induces those same seniors to sell their houses to the next generation of Bay Staters, looking for the right home in which to raise a family. Congratulations, Amy, on a one-two punch for dignified retirement and homeownership opportunity.

I visited the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) Field Division office in Bedford to hear from special agents about fentanyl and m**h in Massachusetts. Three takeaways and two go-forwards:

Three takeaways:

- buying pills on the dark web is supremely dangerous, and young adults are especially susceptible. Often, they believe they are buying either OxyContin or Adderall, but are in fact ingesting fentanyl or m**h, respectively.
- ghost guns (3D-printed weapons or weapons without serial numbers) are often confiscated along with pill presses, underscoring how critical it is that Bay Staters support tough enforcement of the state's new ghost-gun legislation, rather than allowing it to be overturned at the ballot box this fall
- the DEA is getting increasingly sophisticated at tracing illicit payments through crypto wallets, which is the preferred currency for drug traffickers

Two go-forwards:

- I am reintroducing the bipartisan Chinese Communist Party Fentanyl Sanctions Act, which would codify and build on President Biden’s Executive Order 14059, which authorized sanctions against Chinese chemical manufacturers that export the global majority of fentanyl precursors. It also expands those authorities to target online marketplaces and money launderers.
- the DEA is hamstrung by encrypted apps, which is where drug trafficking coordination now happens. Congress will need to balance privacy against safety in considering legislation to address this.

One man fled Uganda as a child after he escaped soldiers who had just murdered his mother & father in front of him. Another man came from Brazil twenty years ago and has been working every day since with no criminal history. Both are in immigration detention; neither should be targets of deportation. Americans want a secure border; legal immigration; and enforcement & deportation that is subject to due process and focuses on individuals who are a threat to public safety.

Americans do not want Trump's cruel & counter-productive deportation machine, which is pursuing dangerous, dragnet operations and denying children counsel at hearings.

On back-to-back days I showed up at two cogs in this machine: a detention facility in Plymouth and the immigration hearing office in Chelmsford. I met with immigrants and watched proceedings. I am resolved to provide my constituents with utmost immigration casework resources from my office and to use my voice & vote in Washington to restore & enhance funding for counsel for unrepresented children and to pass the bipartisan Dignity Act, which streamlines the visa & asylum system and provides a pathway to legal certainty for those without documentation who pay back taxes and are obeying the law.

Forty percent of all wages paid in Massachusetts are directly or indirectly supported by R&D. Research pays the bills in the Bay State. Boston BioProducts, a family-owned company founded by Indian immigrants in the 1990s, is an excellent example. Boston BioProducts manufactures reagents for medical scientists, diagnostics, and biopharma companies. When academic labs like the Broad Institute (Cambridge) and biotechs like Vertex (Boston) spend more on R&D, they buy more reagents to conduct their experiments. Boston BioProducts (Milford) hires more technicians – paying good wages to individuals without requiring a bachelor's degree. When demand stays high, Boston BioProducts invests in its facility, hiring Hodess Cleanroom Construction (Attleboro) to build to the state of the art. Hodess hires skilled construction workers for the project.

Our state's life sciences ecosystem is vital for patients everywhere. That is intuitive. Less discussed, and just as important: life sciences is also the prime source of good jobs here in Massachusetts. That's one reason I am so focused in Washington on the funding & programming that supports life sciences R&D.
