I join people across Ohio in mourning the loss of Pierre Damas Bel. His death is a terrible tragedy and is a sobering reminder that there are human beings on the other side of the policies our government implements.

Over a million kids have already lost SNAP nutrition assistance because of the cuts in Trump’s Big Ugly Law. But it gets even worse.

Because when kids lose SNAP, they can also lose eligibility for free meals at school. And then, as program enrollment drops, school-wide free meal programs end, hurting even more kids. It’s a vicious cycle.

All to give tax cuts to the rich and electric shock gloves to ICE. It’s wrong.

This is why I’ve introduced legislation to cancel the SNAP cuts so we can help families in need.

Cuts to the nation’s largest food assistance program will likely spill over into schools, causing students to lose access to free breakfast and lunch. More than 1 million American children have lost access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, following a recent federal law.
