Yes, Wilbarger County … that is actually RAIN!

After all the heat, dry weather, and fire danger we have had lately, this is definitely a welcome sight (and sound)!

We are thankful for every drop we can get!

Well, y’all… Texas weather is giving us a slight break. After all that heat, Mother Nature appears to have remembered that rain is, in fact, one of her available features.

We’ve got some chances for showers and a few thunderstorms popping up through the week, with more opportunities for rain toward the end of the week. It may not rain on everybody’s house, because… well, this is Texas.

TEMPS: Still warm, but we’re stepping away from the triple-digit nonsense. We’ll generally be hanging around the upper 80s to mid-90s for highs.

FIRE WATCH: The good news is that cooler temperatures, increased humidity and lighter winds are helping keep fire-weather concerns lower for now. That said, our fuels are still plenty dry in spots, so please don’t let one little rain chance convince you the fire danger has packed up and moved to Oklahoma.

If you’re burning, welding, mowing, or doing anything that could create a spark, use caution and check local conditions first. A little rain is helpful—but Texas has a funny way of giving us 20 minutes of rain and then going right back to business.

Bottom line:
A little cooler.
A little wetter.
Still VERY Texas.
And we’ll gladly take every drop we can get!

Disclaimer: Forecast conditions can change quickly. Always check the latest official alerts before outdoor burning or activities.

STAGE 2 WATER CONSERVATION

The City of Vernon is asking residents to be mindful of their water use as we work to protect our local water supply.
Stage 2 Moderate Water Shortage Conditions call for voluntary conservation measures designed to reduce overall water use while helping maintain our system and aquifer levels.

Our goal is to achieve a 20% reduction in total water use.
Every effort to conserve helps, and we appreciate our community working together.

Requirements for Initiation
Customers shall be requested to voluntarily conserve water and adhere to the prescribed restrictions on certain water uses listed below when:
1. Static Level of the aquifer falls below 38.5 ft.; currently 37.82 ft. or
2. Low aquifer levels result in a 20% loss of maximum production capability or pumping capacity of 6.6 MGD for a 24-hour period.

Requirements for Termination
Stage 2 of this Plan may be rescinded when the aquifer level increases back to Stage 1 or normal capacity for a period of forty-five (45) days.

Target for Water-Use Reduction
Achieve a 20% reduction in total water use.

Voluntary Water-Use Restrictions
A. Water customers are requested to comply with the City of Vernon’s Stage 2 Watering Schedule. Customers with odd-numbered addresses may only water Monday and Wednesday, and customers with even-numbered addresses may only water Tuesday and Thursday. Landscape irrigation may only occur from 8:00 PM to 10:00 AM.
B. No landscape irrigation taps will be made.
C. The City Manager, or his/her designee, will contact wholesale water customers to discuss water supply and/or demand conditions and will request that wholesale water customers initiate Stage 2 voluntary measures to reduce water use by 20%.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001.

We honor the innocent lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and all those who sacrificed so much in the days, months, and years that followed.

We remember the courage, the selflessness, and the strength shown on one of our nation’s darkest days. We also remember how, in the face of tragedy, our nation came together as one.

May we never forget those we lost, those who served, and those whose lives were forever changed.

🚨 BREAKING WEATHER NEWS — VERNON, TEXAS 🚨

A COLD FRONT is moving through tomorrow! 🥶

And by “cold front,” we mean the temperature may only reach about 97 degrees. 😂

That’s right, folks. After flirting with 105°, Mother Nature has decided we’ve suffered enough and is blessing Vernon with what can only be described as a regular summer day.

There’s also a decent chance of showers and thunderstorms, so we may actually get water falling from the sky instead of just sweating.

Tomorrow night could even drop into the low 70s. 😳

Locate your hoodies.
Check on your neighbors.
Protect your pipes.
Make sure the livestock have blankets.

We haven’t seen temperatures like this since who knows when…. 😂

Enjoy the Vernon “cold front,” everybody. By Friday, Texas plans to resume regularly scheduled programming. ☀️🔥
