🚨 BREAKING WEATHER NEWS — VERNON, TEXAS 🚨

A COLD FRONT is moving through tomorrow! 🥶

And by “cold front,” we mean the temperature may only reach about 97 degrees. 😂

That’s right, folks. After flirting with 105°, Mother Nature has decided we’ve suffered enough and is blessing Vernon with what can only be described as a regular summer day.

There’s also a decent chance of showers and thunderstorms, so we may actually get water falling from the sky instead of just sweating.

Tomorrow night could even drop into the low 70s. 😳

Locate your hoodies.
Check on your neighbors.
Protect your pipes.
Make sure the livestock have blankets.

We haven’t seen temperatures like this since who knows when…. 😂

Enjoy the Vernon “cold front,” everybody. By Friday, Texas plans to resume regularly scheduled programming. ☀️🔥

🇺🇸 HONORING 9/11 & OUR FIRST RESPONDERS 🇺🇸

This Friday night, our community will come together for more than just the first home football game of the season. We will come together to remember, honor, and recognize those who serve.

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed. Thousands of lives were lost in the terrorist attacks, including hundreds of firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and other first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

Before Friday night’s game, a special commemorative ceremony will honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 and recognize the first responders who continue to serve our communities today.

🇺🇸 A five-person Honor Guard will post the Colors at midfield.

🎶 The National Anthem will be performed jointly by the Vernon High School and City View High School bands.

🚓🚒🚑 FIRST RESPONDERS: If you would like to participate in the on-field recognition and National Anthem, please meet Wilbarger County Sheriff Brian Fritze in the east end zone no later than 6:45 p.m. Participating first responders will walk onto the field before the Honor Guard enters and remain on the field through the National Anthem.

The evening’s pregame activities will also include the Lil’ Lionbackers preparing for their runout at approximately 6:30 p.m., followed at 6:35 p.m. by a special presentation of framed jerseys recognizing recent Vernon Lions graduates who have gone on to serve in the United States military.

We encourage everyone to arrive by 6:30 p.m. or earlier. Help us fill the stands early as Vernon honors those serving our country and communities—and remembers those who gave their lives on September 11, 2001.

Then, at 7:00 p.m., it’s time for some Lion football! 🏈🦁

WORDS MATTER: School Safety Starts With What We Say

Lt. Thames, Deputy Adams, and Chief Birbeck recently participated in the first of a series of “Words Matter” presentations that will be taught to all classes.

The goal of this program is to help prevent threats to our schools by educating students about the seriousness of the words they use and the potential consequences of making threatening statements.

Students are being reminded that even joking about a threat is not a joke. Statements involving violence or threats against a school, student, teacher, or staff member must be taken seriously and can result in significant school discipline and serious legal consequences.

Through “Words Matter,” we want students to understand that their words have an impact. Think before you speak, understand the consequences, and if you hear or see something concerning, say something.

Keeping our schools safe is a responsibility we all share. We appreciate our schools, educators, students, and law enforcement officers working together to create a safe environment for everyone.

Words matter. Choices matter. School safety matters.

🏆 THE BADGES BROUGHT HOME THE HARDWARE! 🏆

Back on February 24, the Vernon Police Department took on the Vernon Fire Department in the Boots & Badges Blood Drive Competition—and we’re proud to announce that the BADGES came out on top! 🚔🏆🚒

We were honored to receive the Boots & Badges plaque, which will now be proudly displayed at the Vernon Police Department. We might remind our friends over at the Fire Department about it from time to time… strictly for public safety purposes, of course. 😎

But while we’re proud to have the bragging rights, the real winners are the people whose lives are saved through blood donations. Every person who rolled up a sleeve made a difference. Blood cannot be manufactured—it has to come from generous donors in our communities, and a single donation can help save lives when someone needs it most.

Thank you to everyone who donated, supported the event, and helped make the competition a success. Whether you supported the Boots or the Badges, you were part of something much bigger than a trophy.

🩸 Give blood. Save lives. That’s a victory we can all be proud of.

And to the Vernon Fire Department… better start practicing for the rematch. The plaque looks pretty good over here. 😉🚔🏆
