Strengthening our community through lasting generosity and leadership since 1996 Since then, the Foundation has continued to expand its reach and impact.

In 1996, visionary donors across Porter County answered the Lilly Endowment’s challenge grant with $1 million in contributions, establishing the Foundation. Today, the Foundation holds over $30 million in assets, has more than 4,200 donors and distributes over $1.8 million a year in grants to nonprofit organizations and scholarships to local students.

Through the power of collective giving, the Women's Fund of Porter County awarded a $15,000 grant to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to remove barriers to stable housing for women and children.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul aids community members in need of resources, including food, clothing, rent, and utilities. Recognizing the financial barriers that women and children face when seeking to transition from shelters to permanent housing in Porter County, the organization will assist with resolving outstanding utility bills or paying deposits to secure stable housing.

Since its inception, the Women’s Fund has granted more than $1 million to local organizations to fund essential programs that support women and children throughout Porter County. We are grateful for each gift that has made this work possible.

For thirty years, the Porter County Community Foundation has worked to ensure generosity in this community lasts forever.

We have carefully stewarded, invested, and put to work every gift entrusted to us on behalf of our neighbors. And the results speak for themselves. Since our earliest days, PCCF has awarded $60 million in grants and scholarships to more than 1,000 organizations. What began as a modest commitment to this community has grown into something far greater than any of us could have imagined.

You make this vital work a reality.

Behind every gift is a donor who believed Porter County was worth investing in. Behind every grant is a nonprofit that showed up for a neighbor in need. Behind every neighbor served is a story of what is possible when a community decides to invest in itself.

Throughout this 30th anniversary year, we are pausing to say, “Thank you.” Thank you for being part of something that has touched tens of thousands of lives and will continue to do so long after we are gone. Our Fall Newsletter, in mailboxes now, holds just a few of those stories, which we’ll be sharing online in the coming weeks. We hope they remind you of why your generosity matters and what it makes possible every single day.

Living Hope Community Church received a grant from the Porter County Community Fund to support upgrades to the facility's kitchen, providing the Fresh Starts Food Truck with a commissary kitchen and dedicated storage space.

Fresh Starts Food Truck, a program of Community Change Center: WeAreOne, provides employment and job training opportunities for individuals rebuilding their lives after involvement with the justice system.

RELIEF
Elizabeth* and her husband worked hard, but their income could not cover their household’s monthly expenses and medical bills. With three children to raise, one with a condition requiring frequent travel for medical appointments, they struggled to get ahead.

For more than forty years, Hebron Country Pantry has provided relief to food insecure community members, like Elizabeth, who select from a variety of fresh, frozen, and shelf stable items in a comfortable, store-like environment. A ministry of the Hebron United Methodist Church and various organizations and individuals, the pantry has grown to meet the increased need over time, serving an average of 170 families each month. A $10,000 grant from the Porter County Community Fund supported the replacement of outdated and inefficient freezers and refrigerators, reducing utility costs in a space provided through a partnership with the Boone Township Trustee.

An army of over fifty passionate volunteers serve in a number of ways—from scheduling clients and volunteers, picking up and distributing food, stocking shelves, and cleaning, to providing emotional support. “We couldn’t do it without the volunteers,” said pantry director Joyce Steinhilber. “They have become like a family.”

“Sometimes when I feel down, I come in here in the morning and leave more joyful. It lifts the spirit,” added Pastor Wayne Williams. “The volunteers know the people and make an impact.”

The pantry reduced the cost of feeding her family each month, and Elizabeth was able to focus on other expenses, including switching to a more reliable car. Beyond that, she has connected with the volunteers, finding support and friendship.
