The OFFICIAL page of Meramec State Park. The Meramec River flows by majestic bluffs, wooded areas and a dramatic cave entrance.

More than 13 miles of hiking trails are available for exploring the park, and visitors can swim, fish, raft and boat in the river. A modern campground, cabins and motel give visitors a choice to stay the night or even longer. Exhibits in the visitor center interpret the natural and cultural features of the park. No visit to the park would be complete without a tour of Fisher Cave with handheld lights. The state park system is composed of 92 parks and historic sites managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources for the benefit of all Missourians. While many of us enjoy playing in the snow, the Ruffed Grouse uses it as a temporary shelter during cold winter days. This bird will dive-bomb headfirst into fluffy snow and tunnel down, creating an insulated cavity. This method leaves no clues that indicate their location to predators.

Join a naturalist on Saturday evening to discuss the various ways animals survive extreme winter temperatures. This will be our last Saturday night program of the season!

October is Bat Appreciation Month, and there are so many reasons why we should appreciate these fascinating creatures. For example, each year insectivorous (insect-eating) bats in the U.S. save farmers an estimated $3.7 billion in pest control!

Join a naturalist this Saturday evening to learn about bats, their lives, and the vital role they play in our ecosystem.

From the Ordovician rock that the park sits on to some of the region’s first inhabitants of the Late Woodland Period, Meramec State Park has had quite an enthralling past. Join a naturalist by the campfire this Friday to learn about the history of the area prior to the lively park we know it as today!

Join us in the campground on Saturday, October 17th for our annual Spooktacular event! This year's event will feature games, contests, trick-or-treating, and more! Costumes are encouraged.

EVENT ACTIVITIES:
•COLORING CONTEST
Pick up a coloring sheet in the field by shower house 1 at 9 a.m. Turn it at the same location in by 3 p.m.
•SCAVENGER HUNT
Meet at field by shower house 1 at 1:30 p.m.
•JACK-O’-LANTERN CONTEST
Place your carved pumpkin at the station near the coloring contest by 4 p.m.
•CARNIVAL GAMES
Enjoy carnival games and popcorn in the campground from 2-5 p.m.
•TRICK-OR-TREATING
Trick or treat through the campground starting at 5 p.m.
For the safety of trick-or-treaters, the campground road will close to vehicle traffic at 4:45 p.m.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Meramec State Park is located at 115 Meramec Park Drive near Sullivan. All activities are free and open to the public. There is no need to register.
