This is one of our favorite exhibits in Phase One!

Located right in our lobby, the “OUR PEOPLE” screen features a rotating collection of photographs of the people who make Martin County what it is. Some have passed on, while others are still in the prime of their lives—but each one is part of the story of this place we call home.

Past and present, young and old, these are the faces of our community.

Our first homeschool tour was a huge success!

We were blessed to welcome a homeschool group affiliated with St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Midland, with the historic 1884 Monastery as our co-host.

Divided into elementary and upper school groups, these eager young people toured Phase 1 of the museum, asked lots of great questions, and then headed to the museum-owned Connell House, where Laura gave them a tour—and, of course, a snack!

It was such a privilege to share the beginnings of Martin County with the next generation. This is exactly what we hoped our museum would be!

Preparing for our first school tour since opening Phase 1, and this is truly what we dreamed of!

From the beginning, our goal has been to share the history of Martin County and help people connect with the stories of those who came before us. And what better place to start than with young minds?

We’ve prepared History Hunts for different age groups so students can explore, look closely, ask questions, and have a little fun while they learn!

We can’t wait to welcome our first group of students through the doors. Wish us luck—we’ll let you know how it goes!

This young lady is amazing!

She was the driving force behind our recent 100-Year Celebration, and while we know she had multitudes of people helping along the way, it is our opinion that without her leadership, it simply would not have been what it was—a fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime celebration!

Our hats are off to you, young lady! Your dedication, leadership, and unselfishness are truly something special. You gave so much of yourself to make this celebration a success and, more importantly, to make our community a better place.

Thank you for the countless hours, the hard work, and the heart you poured into Stanton’s 100-Year Celebration. We appreciate you more than you know! ❤️

PHASE 2 • DAY 2!

More measuring, more looking, and lots of ideas taking shape!

Today we’re digging deeper into our Military & Industry artifacts—measuring artifacts, looking closely at what we have, and revisiting some early concept drawings as we continue to put our heads together.

It’s coming together! We can’t wait to show you where all of this leads.

PHASE 2 IS UNDERWAY!

Monday and Tuesday we’ll be sorting through our Military & Industry artifacts with Rachel from Museum Arts—talking walls, cases, displays and maybe a few surprises!

We share our ideas, Rachel shares hers, we put our heads together—and then the building begins!

Phase 2 journey:

🚚 TODAY WE HAVE MOVERS!

Take a look at our floor plan — D & E are Phase 2! That means Military & Industry are officially on the move!

A–C is Phase 1, the portion of the museum you can tour now. Our remaining artifacts have been safely stored in our depot, carefully cataloged, categorized, boxed and labeled after many hours of work.

Today, Military & Industry are coming out of storage! Community artifacts will remain safely behind, awaiting Phase 3.

Everything has been protected in a climate-controlled, secured and alarmed building while awaiting its turn.

Next comes the fun part — arranging everything inside the museum so you can actually watch Phase 2 take shape! We’ll create a safe viewing area where visitors can see a real exhibit in progress.

And the timing is perfect: our museum design company is coming next week to begin working with us on the new spaces.

🚧 The Journey Continues… and You’re Invited!

Phase 2 at the Martin County Historical Museum is officially underway!

Many of you have wondered what goes on behind the scenes and why creating new exhibits takes time. We thought…why not bring you along for the journey?

Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be sharing the real process of building our next exhibit spaces. Sometimes you’ll see videos, sometimes photos, sometimes fascinating artifacts, and sometimes the challenges we face along the way. We want you to experience the transformation with us—from empty spaces to finished exhibits.

And here’s something new…

🤝 We’re creating a team of Museum Ambassadors!

Not everyone can volunteer on a regular schedule, but many people have asked how they can help from time to time. Our Museum Ambassadors will be the first people we call when we need extra hands for special projects, moving artifacts, setting up exhibits, events, and other fun opportunities.

Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing more details soon!
