Turns out Kings Bay has a pretty good side, too. ☀️

Two weeks ago, USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN 735) arrived at its new homeport of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay under less-than-ideal skies. Today, we’re giving the “Keystone of Defense” the sunny welcome she deserves.
“I am immensely proud of the crews and families of USS PENNSYLVANIA and USS WYOMING, who made history last week by successfully completing the first-ever hull swap in the Submarine Force,” said Cmdr. Chase Dillard, commanding officer of USS PENNSYLVANIA (BLUE). “As a Pennsylvania native and Penn State graduate, I am deeply honored to have assumed command of the ‘Keystone of Defense’ here in Kings Bay, GA.”
The historic hull swap reflects the Submarine Force’s commitment to strategic deterrence while minimizing disruption for Sailors and their families. Under Cmdr. Dillard’s leadership, the crew of USS PENNSYLVANIA (BLUE) is ready to carry that mission forward.
“We Are - Keystone Tough!” ⚓️🌊

I’ll Trade You 🤝 Commander Submarine Group 9
This week, Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) arrived at its new homeport of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, completing a hull swap with USS Wyoming (SSBN 742) which changed homeport to Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, Washington.
This first-of-its-kind operation for OHIO-class submarines, was a planned component of the Navy’s long-term fleet modernization strategy to position the newer Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines at Bangor. This process prepares the submarine fleet for the introduction of the future Columbia-class ballistic missiles submarines, while ensuring Sailors and their families experience the least disruption possible.
Unlike a traditional homeport change, this hull swap allowed two submarines to relocate while the crews and their families remained at their original duty station. The operation eliminated the need for most assigned Sailors to move across the country, underscoring the Navy’s commitment to both its critical strategic deterrent mission and the provision of geographical stability for service members and their families.
