Be Safe Out There!

Most of us already know and observe these safety tips, but as another summer comes to a close, and we enjoy the Labor Day weekend, these tips are worth reminding:

Travel and Road Safety
• Drive sober: Always designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service if you plan to drink.
• Inspect your car: Check your tire pressure, fluid levels, and battery before heading out on a road trip via advice from AAA.
• Buckle up: Always wear your seat belt and ensure children are secure in proper car seats.
• Avoid distractions: Keep your eyes on the road and put your cell phone away.

Grilling and Food Safety
• Grill placement: Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and low tree branches.
• Never leave it alone: Supervise the grill at all times, especially when kids and pets are nearby.
• Check meat temperatures: Cook all meats, poultry and fish to recommended temperatures to prevent food poisoning.

Water and Outdoor Safety
• Swim with a buddy: Never swim alone and always supervise children closely near pools or natural bodies of water.
• Wear sunscreen: Apply SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours.
• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially when spending time in the heat.

Have a happy and relaxing Labor Day Weekend ... and be safe out there!

Reserve Maintenance Power Strengthens Submarine Fleet 🇺🇸

With only three days' notice, 27 Navy Reserve Sailors assigned to Expeditionary Maintenance Jacksonville, recently mobilized from across the country to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, delivering critical waterfront support while keeping a nuclear ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) on schedule for its patrol.

In coordination with TRIDENT Refit Facility, Kings Bay (TRF-KB), these Reservists were Integrated directly into work centers along the Kings Bay waterfront while also supporting critical Planned Maintenance System (PMS) requirements onboard USS Alaska (SSBN 732).

Key Leadership & Technical Contributions:

• HT1 Travis Roach (NRC Knoxville): Led two six-Sailor teams conducting hydro-lancing maintenance on SUBSAFE equipment.
• HT1 Sebastian Fulleda (NRC Jacksonville): Provided Quality Assurance (QA) training and mentorship to junior Active and Reserve personnel, bolstering procedural compliance.
• EM2 Laurent Azonnadou: Developed a scope of work standardizing daily operations and sustaining critical dry dock drainage systems.

By leveraging flexible drill weekends and technical expertise, Expeditionary Maintenance Sailors continue to sharpen their warfighting edge while “Keeping Our Warships … War Ready!”

🇺🇸 40 Years of Dedicated Service! 🇺🇸

The Weapons Repair Department (Code 700) recently hosted a farewell luncheon to honor and celebrate the retirement of Mr. Carmine "Speedo" Spedaliere, marking the culmination of an outstanding 40-year career of combined military and federal civilian service.

Carmine’s decorated career of service began in 1986 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy

Over his 20-year military career, he advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (Fire Control Technician, Submarine Service).

His sea tours took him aboard the ballistic missile submarines USS Daniel Boone (SSBN 629), USS Louisiana (SSBN 743), and USS Tennessee (SSBN 734).

Ashore assignments included key roles at TRIDENT Refit Facility Kings Bay, Submarine Squadron 20, and the Naval Submarine Support Center.

Upon retiring from active duty in 2006, Carmine chose to continue supporting the warfighter as a civilian member of the TRF-KB team.

Over the next two decades, he applied his technical expertise across several critical roles, including:

• Shop 67E: Electronics Integrated Systems Mechanic
• Code 305 & Shop 620: Information Technology Specialist
• Code 741: IT Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Carmine’s hands-on experience was backed by academic excellence, holding both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Information Systems.

Having spent four decades ensuring the readiness of our silent service warships in support of our nation's critical mission, Carmine is stepping into a well-earned retirement. He plans to spend his free time enjoying life with his wife, Cathy, and their family.

The entire TRF-KB family thanks Mr. Carmine Spedaliere for his unmatched professionalism, technical leadership, and decades of selfless service. We wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors! “Fair Winds and Following Seas…”
