Shawnee firefighters took part in the annual Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, climbing 110 stories in full turnout gear to honor the 343 firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001.

Our firefighters also climbed in honor of John B. Glaser, a Shawnee firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty on May 22, 2010.

Proceeds and donations from the climb support the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund (SAFE), helping families of first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty.

We remember.

At 5:20 p.m. today, the Shawnee Fire Department responded to a fire involving a dumpster and three vehicles in the 7600 block of Lucille Street.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
