We're just ONE WEEK AWAY from Old Shawnee Days! Shawnee's has a long history with this wonderful event... and things sure have changed over its 58-year history!

The caption from this photo in The Kansas City Star on May 29th, 1968 reads:
"A C**T GRAZES PEACEFULLY on grass in the center of Old Shawnee Town in Shawnee, where hundreds of people will be visiting Saturday and Sunday at the third annual opening of the Reconstructed frontier town in Johnson County. A pony will be given away Sunday as part of the celebration."

Please note: Although we will be having pony rides...No ponies will be given away during the 2026 Old Shawnee Days! 😄🤷‍♀️ Hopefully we will still see you all there!

On this Memorial Day, we honor all those who have died in service of our nation, and strive to remember their stories. ⭐💙

Pictured here are four reenactors who came to our recent Snapshots of America 250 event (including several active duty service members). They shared the experiences of service members from The Great War with our community. We appreciate all the wonderful historians and volunteers that preserve these stories!

Congrats on making it to your last day (or week) of school! Our volunteers and staff had SUCH an amazing year of field trips with your kids at Shawnee Town 1929!

Special shout-out to the 2nd graders at John Diemer Elementary in Shawnee Mission School District for the WONDERFUL letters and artwork they sent us following their visit. WE LOVED IT! 💗🚌💗

What an OUTSTANDING weekend we had celebrating America's 250th Birthday year at Shawnee Town 1929 Museum!
