You're invited to The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa FastHorse (Sicangu Lakota) presented by Perspectives in Performance!

Directed by Sierra Rosetta (Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe), The Thanksgiving Play is a sharp satirical comedy by MacArthur Genius Fellow Larissa FastHorse. When school teacher Logan is tasked with creating a "culturally sensitive" Thanksgiving pageant, she assembles a team of well-meaning collaborators: her yoga-enthusiast boyfriend Jaxton, fellow teacher and aspiring playwright Caden, and Alicia, an actress newly arrived from Los Angeles. As the group struggles to create the "perfect" production without offending anyone, their efforts spiral into increasingly hilarious (and painfully recognizable) disaster. Through biting humor, FastHorse exposes the contradictions of performative allyship, liberal guilt, and the ways American institutions continue to misunderstand and erase Native voices.

Appropriated Memory: The Creation of a German Post-Memorial Literature by Reinhard Zachau.

"This book offers a survey of post-World War II German-language post-memorial writing. An analysis of the books by Heinrich Böll, Günter Grass, and Wolfgang Koeppen exposes the difficult path of German writing about the Holocaust. Koeppen’s unauthorized appropriation of Jakob Littner’s survivor memoir serves as the frame for this study, exposing the differences between perpetrator and victim perspectives. The various attempts by the current generation of authors to bridge this divide reflect the renewed interest and changed attitudes towards the Holocaust that emerged in Germany after Reunification. Included in this volume are W. G. Sebald’s imaginary dialogue between a victim and a perpetrator, Ursula Krechel’s exploration of Jewish life in Shanghai from a Jewish perspective, Iris Hanika’s presentation of the distraught mindset of a member of Germany’s second perpetrator generation, and Kevin Vennemann’s narrative about a Jewish child in the midst of a Polish massacre."

All are welcome for choral evensong in All Saints' Chapel on Sunday, November 1, at 4 p.m. The University Choir will offer a brief service of sung psalms, canticles, and anthems under the direction of Dr. Geoffrey Ward, University Organist and Choirmaster, and accompanied by Stephanie Yoder, Assistant University Organist. Music will include: Preces and Responses by M. Kretsinger-Harries; Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in A by William H. Harris; Lord, let me know mine end by Maurice Greene; and Thomas Norris's setting of Psalm 34. Rev. Leigh C. Preston, Associate University Chaplain, will officiate.
