Prescribed burning operations wrapped up Thursday in the Wild Horse Valley along the Napa-Solano county line. No further burning is planned for Friday.

For a third consecutive year, CAL FIRE has used prescribed fire to improve rangeland habitat and reduce fuel loads in grass and oak woodlands at this site along a ridge east of Napa. Removing heavy fuels left behind by the 2017 Atlas Fire helps to strengthen the regions resilience to wildfire.

With rain in the upcoming forecast, Thursday’s operation took advantage of a key window to complete this important work.

đźš’ A New Engine, A Stronger Community: Welcome, Engine 6221!

Friday night was a special one for the South Lake County Fire Protection District as firefighters and community members came together to welcome the newest addition to the fleet Engine 6221, which will be stationed at the Cobb Fire Station.

In a time-honored fire service tradition, firefighters and community members joined together to push the new engine into its home for the very first time, marking the beginning of its service to the community.

Engine 6221 replaces a 30-year-old engine that has served the community well. Thanks to an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), two new engines were funded; one for Cobb, and another for Hidden Valley Lake. These new apparatus will provide crews with modern equipment, enhanced capabilities, and the tools needed to respond to emergencies and serve the community for years to come.

As Division Chief Paul Duncan shared Friday night, the goal is for this engine to serve the community for another 30 years.

A huge thank-you to the firefighters, personnel, and community members who showed up to celebrate this milestone and help push Engine 6221 into its new home.

Welcome to the fleet, Engine 6221! đźš’
