Significant tree maintenance work was recently completed at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, reflecting the City’s commitment to maintaining the cemetery grounds while prioritizing the safety of visitors and the preservation of surrounding gravesites and memorial markers.

Several aging trees, estimated to range from 80 to 175 years old, were found to have internal rot and, after careful evaluation, were removed. While some trees appeared healthy from the outside, internal rot had compromised their condition.

Maintaining the cemetery’s grounds requires balancing the care of this historic space with the responsibility of addressing potential safety hazards.

The City of Salisbury is committed to the thoughtful care and maintenance of Chestnut Hill Cemetery, with continued attention to its historical significance, the families it serves, and the safety of the community.

If you have questions or would like additional information about the tree maintenance at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, please contact Lindsey Stegall, City of Salisbury Cemetery Administrator, at [email protected].

🚫 NO ENGINE OIL IN RECYCLING CARTS! 🚫

Engine oil and other automotive fluids do not belong in your recycling cart. Even small amounts of oil can contaminate an entire load of recyclable materials and create safety concerns for collection crews and recycling facility staff.

To dispose of your used motor oil safely, please visit a local auto parts store near you. Many local auto parts stores will accept your used oil for free.

Citizens Academy at the Public Works Department was a great success!

We had the opportunity to welcome local residents to the Public Works Department for a behind-the-scenes look at what we do and how our department operates.

Participants learned more about our different divisions, got to test out some of our equipment, and ask questions directly to our staff.

We enjoyed connecting with our residents and giving them a closer look at the work that goes into keeping Salisbury operations running smoothly every day. A big thank you to everyone who participated!

Rowan County Creek Week was a great success! Through Water Wednesday, community litter sweeps, and storm drain marking, we were able to engage with residents and educate the public about the importance of protecting our local waterways. These events provided hands-on opportunities for the community to learn how everyday actions can impact our creeks, streams, and water quality. We appreciate everyone who came out, volunteered, and helped make these events successful!
