Christian Care QC Rock Island resident Guy Rodgers founded the Rock Island Rescue Mission--later to become Christian Care--in 1916. that houses Christian Care today.

Our Mission.....
By providing safe shelter, support and resources, Christian Care empowers homeless men to make positive changes in every aspect of their lives. His passion was to provide resources for destitute men in the Quad Cities. Originally, the Rescue Mission was simply one room where men could get help with food, clothing, shelter and spiritual nourishment. In 2004, we moved to the new building at 2209 3rd Ave. Rodgers continued his life's vocation until his retirement in 1954. Over the years, services grew to include shelter for men, a meal site, a donation center and a 24/7 Crisis Hotline. We take a holistic approach to healing at Christian Care, focusing on the bodies, minds, hearts and souls of our residents. There is no time limit on how long clients can stay; they are welcome to remain with us as long as they are working to improve their lives. Centering on accountability and responsibility, we help our clients to radically change their thinking and lifestyle--and be productive citizens of the community.

There are moments when we find ourselves surrounded by extraordinary people doing extraordinary things, and we are reminded just how fortunate we are to be part of something so meaningful.

Christian Care Rescue Mission-Martha's House is truly humbled and deeply grateful to have been included in this special experience of recognition.

While recognition is always appreciated, our greatest reward comes from the opportunity to serve others, make a meaningful difference, and stand alongside individuals and organizations who believe that kindness, compassion, and community still matter.

We firmly believe that no organization accomplishes anything truly meaningful on its own. Behind every effort are countless individuals, volunteers, supporters, community partners, and dedicated staff members who generously give their time, share their talents, and quietly make a difference without ever expecting recognition.

To everyone who made this moment possible, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your thoughtfulness, generosity, and recognition mean more to our organization than words can adequately express.

We are honored to be included in this experience, but even more grateful for the relationships, partnerships, and shared commitment to making our community a better place for everyone, especially those who need a helping hand.

At Christian Care Rescue Mission- Martha's House, we recognize that the work we do is not about receiving applause or recognition. It is about extending compassion, restoring hope, preserving dignity, and reminding those we serve that they are not forgotten.

Recognition is a wonderful gift, but the privilege of serving others is an even greater blessing.

From all of us at Christian Care Rescue Mission-Martha's House, please accept our sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude.

Thank you for recognizing our mission, believing in our purpose, and walking alongside us as we continue serving our community. ❤️

A week of gratitude—and a reminder of why we’re here. ❤️

It has been a busy and meaningful week at Christian Care Rescue Mission-Martha’s House. With winter approaching, we are preparing to welcome those who will need shelter, warmth, and a safe place to rest.

This week brought several reasons to celebrate.

Our Street Outreach Services Coordinator, Monifah Ponton, was recognized at the Community Caring Conference for meeting people where they are—out in the streets, offering connection, support, and hope. Monifah served more than 280 people in 2025 and has already surpassed that number this year, with more than two months remaining.

The Moline Regional Community Foundation awarded us a $5,000 grant to purchase lockers for those staying in our facility. A locker may seem like a simple thing. But when everything you own fits into a few bags, having a secure place for your belongings offers peace of mind—and a measure of dignity.

We ended the week with another thoughtful gift: Edward Jones Financial Advisor Mark E. Mayeski presented our Executive Director, Frank Roe, with a much-needed desk. Practical generosity helps keep the work moving forward, too.

To everyone who made this week possible: thank you. We appreciate your kindness, celebrate your support, and want you to know that its impact reaches far beyond our walls and into the streets of our community.

Yet alongside our gratitude is a harder truth.

We celebrate the recognition and the tools that help us serve. But behind every outreach visit, every locker, and every occupied shelter bed is a person facing homelessness. Someone who deserves safety, stability, and a place to call home.

That makes this week bittersweet. We are thankful to be here when people need us—and we long for the day when fewer people do.

Until then, we will keep opening our doors, reaching out, and walking alongside those who need us. Thank you for helping us be there.
