The purpose of our social media is to present matters of public interest concerning the Riverside Police Department’s programs, activities, news stories, and photos. We welcome your comments. DETECTIVES ARREST SUSPECT FOR ARMED ROBBERY SERIES

RIVERSIDE, CA – On Friday, October 23, 2026, at approximately 7:57 p.m., Riverside Police officers responded to a reported robbery that had just occurred near the Islamic Center of Riverside, located at 1038 Linden Street.

Officers learned that the victim, a University of California, Riverside (UCR) student, was walking in the area when he was approached from behind by a suspect riding a scooter. The suspect demanded money, and the victim believed the suspect was armed with a handgun. During the investigation, detectives determined the victim had no affiliation with the Islamic Center.

Later that same evening, a second robbery occurred in the area of Blaine Street and Canyon Crest Drive, near the Stonehaven Apartments. The circumstances of that incident were similar to those reported in the earlier robbery.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, at approximately 7:07 p.m., officers responded to another robbery at the University Crest Apartments, located at 3130 Canyon Crest Drive. The incident shared similar circumstances to the robberies reported the previous evening. Officers from the UC Riverside Police Department conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Detectives from the Riverside Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Unit partnered with UC Riverside Police Department investigators and launched an extensive investigation. On Monday, October 26, 2026, with assistance from the Riverside Police Department’s METRO and PACT teams, detectives located and arrested 18-year-old Shareef Pendergrass of Riverside.Pendergrass was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on six counts of armed robbery. His bail was set at $280,000. 🥋💗 Making a Difference, One Throw at a Time! 💗🥋

Chief Larry V. Gonzalez and Detective Brian Money (Sensei Money) of the Riverside Police Department met with TCP, Inc. (TCP) and The Pink Ribbon Place
to present proceeds raised through the R.Y.J.C.’s incredible all-female youth judo tournament!

This one-of-a-kind tournament brings together young female athletes for an amazing cause: supporting those fighting breast and ovarian cancer. 💪🎀

Thanks to tournament proceeds, T-shirt sales, and other fundraising efforts, donations will benefit The Pink Ribbon Place and TCP, Inc., helping support their missions and those impacted by cancer. A total of $31,000 was donated.

A huge shoutout to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make this event a success! Together, we’re proving that strong athletes can make an even stronger impact! 🥋

Our SWAT Team is conducting training today, Friday, October 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m., in the area of Jefferson Street and Lincoln Avenue. ⁣

You may hear loud bangs and see multiple police vehicles, specialized equipment, and our police helicopter in the area throughout the day.⁣

This is a scheduled training exercise and is not open to the public. We are sharing this information so the activity does not cause concern.⁣

With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of K-9 Maverick. 🖤🐾

For 9 years, Maverick faithfully served our department and community with loyalty, dedication, and courage. We are grateful for his service and the lasting impact he made on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Maverick will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

60 YEARS LATER, THE SEARCH FOR JUSTICE CONTINUES

This Friday, October 30th, will mark 60 years since the murder of 18-year-old Cheri Jo Bates in Riverside.

On October 31, 1966, at approximately 5:45 a.m., Joseph Bates contacted the Riverside Police Department to report his daughter missing. Cheri Jo had left a note for her father stating she was going to the Riverside City College library. At approximately 6:32 a.m., a civilian reported finding a body in an alley near Terracina Drive and Fairfax Avenue on the college campus. Responding officers determined the death was a homicide. The victim was identified as Cheri Jo Bates.

Early in the investigation, investigators identified a primary person of interest. Based on the evidence, this individual has remained a focus of the investigation over the years. Investigators have continued to evaluate all viable leads and pursue new avenues of inquiry.

The Riverside Police Department remains committed to seeking answers and justice for Cheri Jo and her family. Investigators continue to review evidence and explore advances in forensic science and technology, including DNA analysis, probabilistic genotyping, and emerging artificial intelligence tools, where appropriate. Six decades later, the search for answers continues.

DETECTIVES MAKE AN ARREST AT ARLINGTON INN

RIVERSIDE, CA – On Wednesday, October 22, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., detectives from the Riverside Police Department’s Gang Intelligence Unit (GIU) conducted surveillance at the Arlington Inn, located at 6843 Arlington Avenue, to address ongoing criminal activity.

During the operation, detectives contacted an adult male who fled on foot but was apprehended shortly afterward. The suspect admitted possessing a loaded fi***rm concealed in his back pocket.

The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Ralph McMoran of Riverside. Detectives gathered additional information regarding the room he was registered in and obtained a search warrant. During the subsequent search, detectives located methamphetamine inside the room. Mr. McMoran was previously arrested in June of this year by GIU while in possession of ten guns. He was out on bail from a previous gun possession charge from 2025. He was booked in to the Robert Presley Detention Center for the new charges, and his bail was set at $75,000.

This past Saturday, the Riverside Police Foundation, with support from the Riverside Police Department, hosted the annual El Protector Youth Soccer Clinic at Villegas Park!

Kids enjoyed a fun-filled day of soccer, teamwork, and friendship while families connected with their local law enforcement.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us in making this event a success, especially our partner law enforcement agencies and community partners! 💙
