Supporting someone living with a serious mental illness starts with understanding. Taking the time to learn about mental health conditions can help us respond with greater empathy, compassion, and confidence and remind those who are struggling that they do not have to face their challenges alone.

At SafeHouse, mental health support is woven into every program we provide. Through counseling services offered across our shelter, transitional living, street outreach, and community-based programs, our dedicated team provides more than 5,000 hours of counseling each year to youth navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, and other mental health challenges.

Support can take many forms: listening without judgment, offering encouragement, helping someone access resources, or simply being present. Every act of understanding can make a meaningful difference.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage our community to learn more, speak openly, and support one another, because mental health matters, and no one should struggle alone.

On this Memorial Day, all of at SafeHouse pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

We are grateful for the freedoms their courage has secured and for the opportunity to serve our community each day.

This holiday weekend, we wish everyone a safe and peaceful Memorial Day as we reflect, remember, and spend time with those we hold dear.

A huge thank you to the Riverside County Office of Education for donating sporting equipment for the youth at SafeHouse, including a brand-new pickleball set complete with a net, paddles, and balls!

Of course, our staff couldn’t resist trying it out first, sparking a friendly competition between our Street Outreach Director, Counseling staff, Director of Youth Services, and Youth Care staff.

Moments like these are a great reminder that fun and connection matter, not just for the youth we serve, but for the teams who support them every day. Taking time to laugh, move, and engage together helps relieve stress, strengthen teamwork, and create a brighter, more positive environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

We are especially grateful for our longstanding partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education, which has supported SafeHouse for 36 years by providing education to our youth through our onsite school. Their commitment goes far beyond the classroom, helping us create meaningful opportunities that enrich the lives of both our youth and our staff.

Operation SafeHouse is honored and grateful to have been awarded funding from the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and to have attended their Community Outreach Awards Luncheon. Their continued commitment to supporting nonprofit organizations throughout our region makes a meaningful impact on countless lives, and we are proud to be among the 111 organizations recognized this year.

The luncheon was a wonderful celebration of community partnership, generosity, and shared purpose. We especially enjoyed hearing from the Community Spotlight guest speakers and learning more about the incredible work being done across our communities. It was inspiring to be surrounded by so many organizations dedicated to making a difference.

Julie Hale, Fund Development Director, attended on behalf of Operation SafeHouse and was honored to celebrate this generous investment in the work we do to provide safety, shelter, and hope for youth in crisis.

Thank you, Morongo Band of Mission Indians, for your support and for your unwavering commitment to strengthening our communities.

Sometimes the biggest acts of kindness start with one young person deciding to make a difference. 💙

After learning about Operation SafeHouse online and researching the work we do to support youth in crisis, this incredible student from Raney Intermediate School was inspired to take action. With help from friends, family, and her community, she organized a book drive to benefit the youth staying in our shelter and delivered three large boxes of books for our young people to enjoy.

We are so grateful for her compassion, initiative, and generosity. These books will provide comfort, connection, and a much-needed escape for the youth we serve.

Thank you for turning kindness into action and for reminding us that anyone, at any age, can make a meaningful impact. Great job! 📚✨

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

At Operation SafeHouse, we know that mental health support can change and save lives. Many people may not realize that we provide four community-based mental health programs throughout Riverside County, reaching more than 3,000 youth each year.

Through our Cup of Happy, Stress and Your Mood, Seeking Safety, and Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) programs, we provide outreach, individual counseling, and group counseling to help youth navigate challenges such as trauma, substance abuse, suicidal ideation, depression, and anxiety.

Every young person deserves support, safety, and hope. This month and every month, we remain committed to helping youth heal, grow, and thrive. 💚

Executive Director Kendra Tankersley-Davis had the privilege of opening the 47th Soroptimist Desert Coast Region Spring Conference, bringing together a powerful and dedicated group of women committed to supporting and uplifting girls in our communities.

The conference provided an inspiring space to discuss the challenges girls are facing today, and the collective actions we can take to create safer, more equitable, and more supportive environments for them to thrive. These conversations are essential, when we raise awareness, strengthen advocacy, and invest in opportunity, we create lasting impact that extends far beyond individual lives.

We are grateful to stand alongside leaders who are committed to empowerment, collaboration, and meaningful change for girls and women everywhere.

Rainbow and our Outreach Team had the opportunity to attend the 2026 Inland Empire Housing Conference this week and it was a powerful reminder that real change happens when we work together.

Hosted by the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County, Inc. in recognition of National Fair Housing Month, this year’s theme, “YOU ARE THE KEY: Unlocking Barriers, Creating Opportunities”, couldn’t be more fitting.

With over 300 housing leaders in the room, the conference created space for meaningful conversations around the barriers our communities face and the innovative, collaborative solutions needed to overcome them.

We’re grateful to be part of a network committed to expanding access, equity, and opportunity across the Inland Empire. 💙

Today we wear denim with purpose. 💙

Denim Day is a reminder that clothing never equals consent. Too many young people we serve have experienced abuse, exploitation, and trauma; often in silence.

At Operation SafeHouse, we stand with survivors and work every day to create safety, healing, and hope for youth in crisis.

Join us. Wear denim. Speak up. Believe survivors.

Our Executive Director, Kendra Tankersley-Davis, attended the Inland Empire Community Foundation Thrive Conference, where she had the opportunity to reconnect with peers across the region and engage in meaningful conversations with fellow nonprofit leaders.

Discussions throughout the event focused on creating space for collaboration, shared learning, and strengthening relationships within the nonprofit sector. Keynote speakers offered valuable insight into fund development, technology and data, advocacy, and strategies for building stronger, more sustainable organizations.

We are grateful for opportunities like this that help deepen connection, spark new ideas, and strengthen our collective impact in serving our communities.
