Give a little time, make a lasting impact. Become a CHEER volunteer!

Through simple tasks like running errands or picking up groceries, our CHEER program volunteers help isolated Bergen County seniors maintain their independence. But the real magic happens in the connection—the shared stories, warm visits, and lasting friendships that help our neighbors truly thrive at home.

We’re looking for more volunteers because the need is real and growing. Be part of something special. Your kindness can be the support a senior neighbor needs.

Our next CHEER volunteer training session is October 30. Tap the link in our bio to sign up today.

On Wednesday, October 7, an incredible team from Tata Consumer Products in Montvale joined forces with Bergen Volunteers to assemble 100 party-in-a-box birthday bundles for disabled adults served by Spectrum for Living. The packages were filled with cake mix, icing, balloons, candles, and cards.

Many thanks to Tata Consumer Products and their hardworking volunteers for bringing the birthday magic! It was an incredible morning of giving back and supporting our neighbors.

Today is —the national day of giving for turning charitable savings into real-world impact!

A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is like a dedicated charitable savings account. Created with your financial advisor, a DAF allows you to give cash, stock, real estate, or other assets for maximum tax benefits—and recommend grants directly to the causes closest to your heart.

If you have a Donor-Advised Fund with Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, or another provider, today is the day to put those assets to work for isolated seniors, at-risk youth, and local families in need in Bergen County.

How to give:
1. Recommend a Grant: Direct funds to us through your provider portal.
2. Name a Beneficiary: Designate Bergen Volunteers as a beneficiary for long-term community support.

Grant info:
• Legal Name: Volunteer Center of Bergen County (Bergen Volunteers)
• EIN: 22-1821282

Our CHORE family is heartbroken by the passing of John “Tom” Ferguson, one of our Thursday volunteers who gave 1 year, 10 months and 13 days of his time to helping older adults throughout Bergen County.

Tom was someone who simply never seemed to stop. He was always ready to work, always willing to help, and always looking for the next thing he could do for someone else. Whether he was volunteering with CHORE, Habitat for Humanity, or I Want to Mow Your Lawn, Tom spent his time making a difference in the lives of others.

After battling and overcoming serious health challenges this past summer, Tom returned to CHORE because helping people was just who he was. He was with us consistently until his passing on Saturday, September 26.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and heart Tom gave to CHORE. He will be deeply missed by our staff, volunteers and the many people he helped along the way.

Thank you, Tom, for everything you gave and everyone you helped. We will miss seeing you on Thursdays. ❤️
