Children’s Aid and Family Services was honored to participate in Bergen Community College’s Juneteenth Celebration. Our CEO, Shavonda E. Sumter, joined the event as a featured speaker, reflecting on this year’s theme, “Bringing Balance to America’s Celebration of Freedom,” and encouraging students to stay engaged, make their voices heard, and participate in the democratic process by voting.

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Eric M. Friedman, President; Dr. Deborah Manning, Dean of Multicultural Services and Activities; and Dr. Andrew Tomko, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, for their leadership in creating a meaningful event that celebrated freedom, education, civic engagement, and community.

Did you know over 50,000 grandparents in New Jersey are raising their grandchildren, and often without the support they need?

Members of our team – Ellen Elias, Mary Concepcion, Shatenai Brown and Cynthia Lapidus -- recently joined an expert panel on “Aging Insights” to discuss navigating kinship care and accessing resources and services.

We were grateful to join this conversation with representatives from NJ Department of Children and Families, and the Division of Family & Community Partnerships, to share real support for kinship families available across the state.
