Desert Water Agency is a public, non-profit agency and a State Water Contractor, serving a 325- square-mile area, including parts of Cathedral City, outlying county areas, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs. An elected five-member board sets policy and represents the ratepayers. About 95 percent of our clean, refreshing water is pumped from deep wells located throughout the service area. DWA pumps using 29 active wells into our water system—which includes about 22,000 active services throughout 369 miles of pipeline. We replenish the groundwater with water from the State Water Project. Because there is no direct pipeline from the SWP to Palm Springs, we exchange water with Metropolitan Water District. Our replenishment water comes from the Colorado River Aqueduct. We use the water from two connections to fill our recharge basins, located at Whitewater and Mission Creek. The agency also gets water from mountain streams including Chino Creek, Snow Creek and Falls Creek. We get about 3 million gallons a day from stream supply and about 78 million gallons per day in well capacity. Desert Water works hard to ensure the purity of this water by carefully monitoring and controlling the quality of water that we supply to our customers. Well-trained DWA employees provide information, service hook ups and emergency assistance in the case of accidents or other problems affecting service to our customers.

Pipe flushing! DWA will be flushing newly installed water mains on Monday, October 26, as part of a pipeline replacement project. The pipes are flushed to disinfect them before use.

People may notice water flowing beginning at 8 a.m. in the following areas:

🚧Avenida Caballeros, flowing south from E. El Alameda to E. Alejo Road
🚧Tamarisk Road, flowing west from N. Arquilla Road to Avenida Caballeros and then south to E. Alejo Road

Sandbags will be used to direct the water, which will eventually enter the city storm drain system. Signage will be placed on each of the major roadways. Traffic should be able to pass through during the flushing.

💧🌵Desert Water Agency was proud to sponsor two local events last week in Desert Hot Springs: the DHS State of the City and the inaugural community Water Festival!

We had a blast at the Water Festival alongside our friends at Mission Springs Water District and other local organizations. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn about water conservation, spin the wheel and take home some DWA swag!

DWA will be conducting road work as part of a leak detection survey Monday, Oct. 19 – Thursday, Oct. 22. Intermittent traffic control will be in place between 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the following streets:

🚧 N. Sunrise Way – from E. Vista Chino to Four Seasons Blvd.
🚧E. Racquet Club Road/N. Farrell Drive – from N. Sunrise Way to E. Vista Chino

🛑Lanes will be reduced; traffic will continue to flow in both directions.
🚙Please drive carefully and avoid the area if possible.

💦 Finding and fixing leaks matters – for homeowners and for Desert Water Agency! 💦

Repairing leaks reduces water waste and saves money. At DWA, we encourage our customers to find and fix leaks at home. But, did you know, we also look for leaks in our own distribution system? 🚰

This month, DWA is conducting its annual leak detection survey to help us find hidden leaks before they become a major problem. People may notice technicians wearing headphones, carrying listening rods and using specialized equipment to locate leaks.

Traffic Alert! DWA will be conducting road work on S. Indian Canyon Drive (between E. Camino Parocela and E. Arenas Road) Wednesday, Oct. 14 – Thursday, Oct. 22 (excluding Friday and the weekend).

Work will start at the intersection of S. Indian Canyon Dr. and E. Camino Parocela and move north throughout the project, ending at E. Arenas Road.

🚧Traffic impact: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. One northbound lane will be closed for potholing. Traffic will continue to flow in both directions.
🚙Please drive carefully and avoid the area if possible.
