🎉 We're proud to share that HARC CEO Dr. Jenna LeComte-Hinely received the Member of the Year Award at the Riverside County Health Coalition's October meeting!

This special session celebrated Riverside County Public Health's 100-year legacy of improving community health. Attendees reflected on the power of partnerships, explored innovative health initiatives, and were inspired to continue advancing health equity and improving the well-being of all Riverside County residents.

Also revealed during the meeting were updates on the Public Health Department’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) and action groups.

September 26 marks 20 years of HARC’s existence. On this day, we want to thank everyone who has been a part of our journey over the past two decades, from our Board Members (past and present), staff, funders, and data users. 🚨 September is National Preparedness Month 🚨

How ready is our community for a disaster?

According to HARC's 2025 Coachella Valley Community Health Survey:

✅ 60% of Coachella Valley adults report having medical supplies, such as a first aid kit
✅ 54% have a communication plan in place

⚠️ Only 47% report having adequate emergency supplies like food and water

📣 Just released: HARC's Eastern Coachella Valley Community Health Report. The report highlights critical community health challenges and opportunities. Findings show that health is shaped not only by medical care or personal choices, but also by the conditions that surround people every day—economic stability, access to timely and culturally competent care, housing, food, the environment, and the strength of the systems meant to support each other.

🎗️ Cancer prevention starts with awareness and action.

HARC's latest data shows that 32% of Coachella Valley children ages 9+ have never received the HPV vaccine, despite its proven ability to help prevent cancers caused by HPV.

Health experts recommend HPV vaccination beginning at ages 9-12 for the best protection.

During Immunization Awareness Month, let's work together to increase awareness, improve access, and ensure every family has the information they need to make informed healthcare decisions.

📊 New HARC data shows vaccine hesitancy is increasing in the Coachella Valley.

In 2025, only 67% of adults agreed that vaccines are necessary, down from 80% in 2022. Meanwhile, the percentage of adults who were uncertain increased from 17% to 26%.

Vaccines remain one of the most effective tools for preventing disease, reducing suffering, and saving lives. This Immunization Awareness Month, let's continue sharing trusted information and supporting informed health decisions.

🌎 We're proud to celebrate another example of HARC staff making an impact.

Congratulations to HARC's Senior Research Associate, Dr. Daniel Polk, who recently presented in Spanish at the biannual Ethnicity, Race and Indigenous People (ERIP) Conference at the Catholic University of Bolivia in La Paz.

Dr. Polk shared research examining the similarities and differences between California's and Bolivia's lithium industries, contributing to an important international dialogue on natural resources, economic development, and community impacts.

At HARC, we're proud of the expertise, dedication, and thought leadership our staff bring to conversations that extend far beyond our region.
