NORWICH TAXPAYERS — DID YOU KNOW THE CITY IS ABOUT TO TRANSFER NEARLY 39 ACRES OF YOUR LAND?

On Tuesday, the City Council is being asked to approve the transfer of 38.79 acres of CITY-OWNED property to the private nonprofit Avalonia Land Conservancy.

This is taxpayer-owned land. Once the City signs over the deed, Norwich no longer owns it.

So before anyone votes YES, taxpayers deserve some very basic answers:

WHAT IS 38.79 ACRES WORTH?

HOW MUCH IS AVALONIA PAYING NORWICH?

If they’re paying little or nothing, WHY is Norwich transferring taxpayer-owned property instead of retaining ownership while protecting it as open space?

Norwich residents are being asked to shoulder taxes, bonds and rising costs. We should at least know the dollar value of public property leaving City ownership before the deed is signed.

Tuesday, September 8 — 7:30 PM — Norwich City Council.

Ask the question: WHAT ARE WE GETTING IN RETURN?

I’m getting tired of the narrative questioning the training and qualifications of Norwich’s volunteer firefighters.

Wallingford’s Fire Chief posting required five years at the rank of Captain or higher, while Samuel Wilson’s career path did not include service as a Captain or Battalion Chief before becoming Deputy Chief.

This isn’t personal. It’s about consistency. If we’re going to scrutinize the training and qualifications of our volunteers, then the same scrutiny and standards should apply to everyone.

Just to be clear… They (city manager, council members and mayor) knew what the projected cost would be in April. When yearly … for all five volunteer depts… it’s a little over 700,000. Closing Yantic within a few months cost us 500,000.
They knew and continued to keep Yantic closed.
And then they closed Taftville.
