As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and dedication gave us the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As you spend time with family and friends this weekend, take a moment to remember those who never made it home. If you're gathered around a cookout or raising a glass, raise one in honor of the fallen who gave everything for this nation.

Never forgotten

This week, during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we want to recognize and thank the dispatchers of the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office for the outstanding work they do every day.

Our dispatchers are a vital part of public safety. They are the first first responders, answering calls for help, gathering critical information, coordinating resources, and providing calm, professional communication during some of the most stressful moments imaginable.

Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our communities play a major role in the success and safety of every emergency response. We are grateful for everything they do behind the scenes each and every day.

Thank you for your service and continued support.

This morning at 4:32 AM, New Concord Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident with reports of a semi on fire. Upon arrival, crews found two semis with extensive damage, a large debris field, several hundred gallons of diesel fuel on the ground, and one semi and trailer moderately involved in fire.

All three drivers were out of the vehicles prior to our arrival, with only minor injuries reported.

We would like to sincerely thank our mutual aid partners — Cassell Station FD, Perry Township FD, Washington Township FD, Muskingum County EMA, New Concord Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol — for their assistance and support on this incident. We also want to thank Pappy’s Towing and A-one Towing for their help with the cleanup operations.

Cleanup will remain ongoing for several more hours as crews continue working to make the area safe.
