I’m proud to share that I’m running for Democratic State Central Committee for Ohio’s 20th District, representing Licking, Fairfield, and part of Perry Counties.

Public service has always been at my core, and I’m excited to bring my experience and leadership to this role—serving as a strong connection between our local communities and the state party, and ensuring our voices are heard at the state level.

After eight years, my time on the State Board of Education comes to an end! It has been a true honor to serve, to represent, and to advocate for all children. I leave knowing I made a difference by asking the tough questions, by demanding answers, and by understanding the issues facing children, educators, and families.

I am proud that I transformed the expectations of a board member. I am proud of the policy changes I brought forward and advocated for, including, the recent resolution condemning racism. I am proud that I fought for the creation of and was a leader in the implementation of the state's strategic plan on education. I am proud to be referred to as the "voice of reason" on the SBOE. I am proud that I am teaching my own children through my actions.

I did not enter this position seeking higher office, media attention, or accolades. I did this to be a voice for those who need it and to stand up for change. I did this to ensure every child has access to a quality education.

Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way! I appreciate your encouragement, our tough conversations, and our solutions. There is much work to be done and I look forward to continued advocacy. What does the future hold for me? To be continued...

Moments ago Governor DeWine announced that all Ohio schools will go on an extended spring break beginning at the end of the school day on Monday, March 16th and lasting three weeks.

This is a decision that was not made lightly. I've been in communication with Ohio Department of Education leadership and our school leaders to help support these efforts. We know that issues will arise from this decision and efforts are underway to address them.

Attending AOP-20 Breakfast of Champions this morning. Proud of the work they are doing and how supports those efforts. Our strategic plan for education was worth fighting for and doing the right way.

Look who I ran into today! Richard Cordray and I met with superintendents from Appalachian schools this morning to talk about the future of education. Ohio deserves a governor who will bring stakeholders to the table to support education and our children.

In the summer of 2015, the ELECTED members of the SBOE called for an investigation into ODE’s charter school dept. We didn’t get it but it led to an internal look at things including online student count procedures.
