Some summers change everything, even how you dry your laundry.

This season, we’re choosing Team Sunshine. ☀️ Skip the dryer and let laundry air dry instead. Hanging clothes outside or using a drying rack indoors can help lower energy use and reduce wear on your clothes.

Nearly half of all power outages can be traced back to trees and vegetation coming into contact with electrical infrastructure. Keeping lines clear of overgrown vegetation plays a major role in preventing power outages. That’s why Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative works every day to strike a careful balance between preserving the beauty we cherish and delivering the reliable electricity you expect. via NRECA

💡 What Does It Mean to Be a Rural Electric Cooperative?
At Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GMEC), we're proud to serve the communities we call home. Unlike investor-owned utilities, we're a not-for-profit cooperative owned by the members we serve. Every decision we make is focused on providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to our members.
GMEC maintains more than 2,800 miles of power lines across 9 counties, delivering electricity to more than 17,000 meters and over 13,000 member-owners through 13 substations.
💡 What makes rural electric service different? We average approximately 6 members per mile of line, compared to many investor-owned utilities that serve around 30 customers per mile of line. That means our crews maintain significantly more infrastructure to serve fewer consumers, often across challenging terrain and long distances. Behind that effort is a dedicated team of just 40 employees who work every day to keep the lights on, respond to outages, maintain our system, and serve our members.
For nearly a century, electric cooperatives have been committed to bringing reliable power to rural America. Today, that mission remains the same: serving our members, strengthening our communities, and ensuring the people who depend on us continue to receive the quality service they deserve.
Because at the end of the day, we're not just your electric provider, we're your neighbors.

UPDATE- The Peak Alert has ended for this evening. Thank you to ALL our members for their conservation efforts.

PEAK ALERT!

There is an increased demand for electricity this evening. Conserve or delay energy use if possible.

👉Tips to help conserve:

☑️ Use fans instead of lowering the thermostat.
☑️ Run the dishwasher, do laundry and take showers on off-peak hours (after 8pm).
☑️ Turn off all unnecessary lights and electronics.
☑️ Close blinds and curtains to block out heat from the sun.

If you have a load control switch it will be activated. For more information on our load management program, visit https://www.gmenergy.com/radio-controlled-switches
