Today, on National First Responder Day, Blount County Fire wants to take a moment to honor and thank all of our fellow first responders who serve this incredible community alongside us.

To our brothers and sisters in law enforcement, our dedicated EMS partners, the 911 dispatchers who serve as our vital lifeline, and all of our neighboring fire departments: thank you. We see the sacrifices you make, the long hours you work, and the courage you bring to every single emergency. When the tone drops, we know we are never responding alone. We are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you on the front lines every day.

We have two trunk or treat’s coming up at the end of the week! Thursday the 29th we’ll be at Operation Safe Halloween at the Everett Rec Center. Friday 30th we’ll be at Spooktacular in downtown Maryville. Stop by and see us and more importantly get some candy!

Time to play a quick round of everyone's favorite fall game:

Call 911 or Not?

* Your neighbor is burning a pile of leaves and branches in their yard, and the hazy smoke is blowing across your driveway. Verdict: Don't call 911. It's legal, it's leaf season, and they are likely just clearing yard debris.

* There is a couch fully engulfed in flames on the front lawn, and the porch siding is starting to melt. Verdict: Call 911. We definitely need to come handle that.

* Folks are gathered around a backyard fire pit laughing, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying the crisp mountain air. Verdict: Don't call 911. Being slightly annoyed that you weren't invited to the bonfire is not a fire emergency.

* You see a thick column of heavy, dark black smoke or a wall of flames actively spreading through the woods. Verdict: Call 911. Send us the trucks!

If you don't see an uncontrolled flame or black smoke, there is a very good chance it's just a routine seasonal burn. Please help us keep emergency lines open for real disasters so our crews are ready when it counts.

Smelling smoke in the air right now doesn't automatically mean it's time to hit the panic button-or dial 911.

It's that time of year when folks are clearing out leaves, burning branches, and firing up the bonfire for a cozy gathering with friends and family. Believe it or not, it's completely legal. If the smoke isn't thick and black, and you don't actually see an uncontrolled flame, there is a very good chance your neighbor is just enjoying the season.

We know not everyone loves the smell of a campfire blowing across their property line, but an annoying neighbor isn't a fire emergency. Please save those 911 calls for actual, uncontrolled fires so our crews can stay ready for the real deal.

If you are burning yard debris, you do need to secure a burn permit from the Department of Forestry first. It's easy-just call 877-350-BURN (2876) or get one online at burnsafetn.org.

Keep it safe, keep it contained, and enjoy the fall weather!

FIRE PREVENTION MONTH – WEEK 3: COOKING SAFETY!

Did you know that cooking is one of the leading causes of home fires? A few simple habits in the kitchen can help keep you and your family safe!

Here are this week’s fire safety reminders from Blount County Fire Protection District:

Stay in the kitchen! Never leave cooking food unattended, especially when frying, grilling, or broiling.

Keep things clear! Keep towels, paper products, oven mitts, and anything that can burn away from the stovetop.

Turn pot handles inward. This helps prevent accidental spills and burns, especially around little ones.

Keep kids and pets back. Create a safe zone of at least 3 feet around the stove and other hot cooking areas.

Be careful with grease fires! Never throw water on a grease fire. If it’s small and safe to do so, slide a lid over the pan, turn off the heat, and leave it covered until cool. If the fire grows or you feel unsafe, get out and call 911.

Keep a close eye on what’s cooking. If you need to step away, turn off the burner.

This Fire Prevention Month, let’s make fire safety part of our everyday routine. A few seconds of prevention can make a lifetime of difference!

1st Annual Blount Fire Family Fun Firehouse Festivities!

What a great night bringing our Blount Fire family together for an evening of fun, laughter, and making memories!

As firefighters, we spend a lot of time away from home serving our community. Between long shifts, calls, training, and everything else that comes with the job, we don’t always get as much time with our own families as we would like. That’s what made this night so special. It was a chance to slow down, enjoy each other’s company, and spend some much-needed time with the people who support us behind the scenes.

Our families are a huge part of what makes this job possible, and we’re thankful for every opportunity to bring everyone together. Nights like this remind us that while we may serve as a fire department, we’re also one big family!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped plan, organize, and put together the 1st Annual Blount Fire Family Fun Firehouse Festivities. Your time and effort made this night possible, and we appreciate everything you did to make it a success!

Here’s to making this an annual tradition and creating many more memories together!
