We've been a little quiet lately... but you know what shouldn't be quiet? Your smoke alarms. 🚨

We get it. Ideally, you want your smoke alarms to stay completely silent. Nobody enjoys playing detective in their pajamas at 3 AM trying to locate that one rogue "low battery" chirp. 🕵️‍♂️

But during an emergency? You need them loud enough to wake the entire house.

Make a little noise on purpose! Test your smoke alarms once a month. That one quick, planned beep is the ultimate safety check to make sure they'll actually sound the alarm when it matters most.

🚒 By the Numbers: Blount County Fire Protection District YTD 🚒
We've been working hard to keep our community safe! So far this year, our crews have responded to a staggering 561 total incidents. From putting out fires to helping citizens in need, your Blount County Fire Protection District is always ready to answer the call.

But did you know that we respond to much more than just fires? Here is a quick look at what some of our year-to-date numbers look like:

Fires: Our crews tackled 36 structural involvement fires. We also responded to 27 vegetation and grass fires.

Public Service: We responded to 58 fire or smoke alarms. Additionally, our team provided 47 citizen assists.

Hazardous Situations: We mitigated 15 gas leak or gas odor calls. We also responded to 8 motor vehicle collision hazards.

Rescues: Our personnel performed 10 extrications from motor vehicle collisions.

Good Intent: We verified 59 authorized controlled burns to ensure the community's safety.

Today, the Blount County Fire Protection District pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women of our United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice.

As first responders, we know what it means to serve and protect a community-but today, our focus is solely on those who gave absolutely everything to protect our nation. The freedoms we enjoy every single day, including the freedom to serve our neighbors here in Blount County, were paid for by their extraordinary courage.

To the fallen, and to the Gold Star families who carry their legacy: we remember you, we honor you, and we will never forget.

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Defenders: Happy Armed Forces Day! 🇺🇸

Today, the Blount County Fire Protection District joins the nation in celebrating Armed Forces Day. Celebrated on the third Saturday of May, this day was created in 1949 by Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson to unify the individual branch celebrations into a single day of collective appreciation for all who serve in uniform.

As first responders, we share a deep bond with our military brothers and sisters-including many members of our own department who have worn both the uniform of our country and the turnout gear of the BCFD.

To the members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard: thank you for your unwavering dedication, sacrifices, and service to our great nation.

🚨 UPDATE: State Burn Permit Requirements End Today! 🚨
Today, May 15th, is the LAST DAY you need a Tennessee state burn permit for debris burning! Starting tomorrow, permits are no longer required until October 15th. 🌳🍂

Did you know? Tennessee's fire season runs exactly opposite to the Western U.S.! Ours typically lasts from October 15th through May 15th.

Why the difference? It's all about the trees! Our fire season ends in late spring as our beautiful hardwood canopy becomes full, shading the forest floor and keeping moisture in. Out West, different weather patterns, vegetation types, and melting snowpacks lead to summer fire seasons. 🌲☀️

Even though permit season is over, we still urge everyone to use caution when burning.

Please be aware of the active scene if you are traveling nearby. Expect to see emergency vehicles and personnel working close to the roadway. Drive safely, reduce your speed, and stay alert! 🚒

Please use extreme caution in the area! Crews from the Blount County Fire Protection District are currently on the scene of a working structure fire.

📍 Location: Highway 411 South near Sagebrush Lane
⚠️ What you need to know:

* Avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes.

* Expect traffic delays.

* Yield to emergency vehicles and give first responders plenty of room to work safely.

Happy 43rd Birthday to Subs & Such 🎉

Our crew stopped by today to help celebrate and grab some lunch. Not only was the food excellent, but 43% of today's profits went directly to Isaiah 117 House Blount County TN We love seeing our community come together to support such a meaningful organization.

Happy Earth Day from the Blount County Fire Protection District! 🌎🚒

We love the Earth. Honestly, it's where we keep all our fire trucks, our gear, and most importantly, our coffee. So, we'd really appreciate it if you didn't set it on fire today (or any day, really).

Let's keep Blount County green, gorgeous, and un-scorched. Here's how you can help us help Mother Nature:

* Mind the Wind: Wind and fire go together like oil and water-except much more expensive and dangerous. If it's breezy, save the yard debris burn for another day.

* Don't Walk Away: A fire is the worst kind of clingy friend. If you leave it alone, it will absolutely ruin your day. Never leave a burn pile or campfire unattended.

* Drown It out: When you're done with a campfire, drown it, stir it, and drown it again. If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave.

Treat the Earth right today. We promise we'd rather be admiring the scenery than putting it out. Stay safe out there!
