W. Bessemer and Middlesettlements Resurfacing

The City of Alcoa and the Tennessee Department of Transportation will be resurfacing W Bessemer and Middlesettlements Rd. between the intersections of Hunters Crossing and N. Calderwood St. The Exit and Entrance ramps coming off Highway 129 leading to these roads will also be included in the resurfacing. The work is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21, and will continue nonstop until complete. It is projected to take 72 hours to finish. Inclement weather or unforeseen conditions may extend this project.

In stage one, the on- and off-ramps for the highway will be closed for repaving, forcing all traffic to stay on Alcoa Highway or on Bessemer/Middlesettlements and go through the Diverging Diamond Interchange.

In stage two, the on- and off-ramps will remain open, but traffic will be closed while going through the Diverging Diamond. Travelers using the area will have to get on Alcoa Highway or will be able to exit the roadways without passing through the Diverging Diamond Interchange.

Detours, flagging, Lane closures, Lane shifts, and uneven pavement should be expected for the full duration of the project.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid this area if possible because long delays are expected. Motorists should exercise caution while traveling through the construction zone and allow extra travel time to reach their destination.

The City of Alcoa and TDOT are teaming up to repave the Diverging Diamond! We wanted to make residents and travelers aware about the upcoming project. While the repaving schedule hasn't been determined, the closure for repaving will happen in stages.

In stage one, the on and off ramps for the highway will be closed for repaving, forcing all traffic to stay on Alcoa Highway, or stay on Bessemer/Middlesettlements and go through the Diverging Diamond Interchange.

In stage two, the on and off ramps will remain open, but the traffic will be closed for going through the Diverging Diamond. Travelers using the area will have to get on Alcoa Highway or will be able to exit the roadways not passing through the Diverging Diamond Interchange.

The closure is expected to last no more than three days. The project is expected to start on Sunday night, June 21, and we wanted everyone to be aware of this upcoming project! Once the dates of the closure are finalized, the city will provide an update.
