Renee brought our speaker this morning - Diane Hunt, who shared the inspiring mission of Changed Choices, a North Carolina nonprofit focused on addiction recovery and helping women impacted by incarceration.
Founded 27 years ago by a chaplain who began visiting women in jail, the organization now serves around 50 women at a time through a 10-module curriculum paired with individual coaching. Their support begins at the point of arrest and continues through reentry, helping with housing, employment, transportation, and rebuilding lives.
Changed Choices focuses on women with at least two years remaining on their sentence, allowing time to build trust and lasting relationships. Their trauma-informed approach helps women imagine and pursue a different future — with the goal of becoming stable, independent, and flourishing members of the community.
The results are remarkable: zero recidivism over the past five years, compared to a national average near 50%. Diane also shared the story of the first woman they served, Amy, who was released after 24 years and 8 months in prison.
This life-changing work depends on volunteers, community partners, and supporters. We thank Diane for sharing such a powerful and hopeful message with our club today!
