At Pennfield High School, Student Support Coordinator Kassaundra Green’s key focus this year is ensuring every student knows they are supported, knows where to turn for resources, and recognizes the power of showing up each day. To make these supports visible and accessible, we installed a CIS of Michigan bulletin board in the high-traffic hallway.

By centering student voices on what helps them feel heard, the board provides clear access to CIS resources and tracks monthly grade-level attendance averages. The interactive board ensures scholars know support is always within reach. To help build intentional relationships, students responded to the prompt “I feel supported when …”

What an incredible day for Public Schools! Our dedicated Student Support Coordinators from schools across the district's east and west sides came together for the district-wide Care to the Core kickoff.

Hosted annually, Care to the Core focuses on holistic student health, leadership workshops, and anti-bullying initiatives. By creating a supportive environment, this program empowers students to build strong connections and foster a positive school culture.

A massive thank you to Superintendent Mike Esseily for his strong leadership, and to all our CISM Student Support Coordinators who show up every day for our kids. You truly embody what it means to care to the core.

For 988 Day, 50 Ferndale High School students took time to reflect and participate in activities centered around hope, happiness, encouragement, and belonging.

In partnership with General Education Social Worker Alyssa Reese and Ferndale Youth Assistance, CIS of Michigan highlighted the 24/7 , available by call or text. This event reminds students that their presence matters and that they are not alone. From chalking positive messages on the sidewalks to sharing what gives them hope on interactive posters, students created powerful messages.

To every student: You are not alone, you belong, and your presence matters! 💙✨

On Hunger Action Day, CIS of Michigan CEO Mallory DePrekel joined Dru Montri from Feeding America and Julie Cassidy from the Michigan League for Public Policy for the second annual State of the Plate event, hosted by the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB).

Moderated by Kelly Miller from GLFB, Mallory and the panelists highlighted how systems, individuals, and local organizations must work together to tackle food insecurity. By coordinating integrated supports in our schools, CIS of Michigan works hand in hand with local food banks across the state to ensure students and their families can reliably access essential resources.

The first day of school is a big day, and to help kick off the year with encouragement and connection, Jessica Yorch, our Student Support Coordinator at North Saginaw Charter Academy, made sure the staff felt celebrated. She created "The Core Café" with a special staff appreciation snack station, including apple-themed snacks and “apple affirmations.” Throughout the day, staff stopped by to grab a snack and take a moment to pause and recharge. The Core Café focuses on building strong relationships, celebrating teachers and staff, and deepening collaboration between CIS and the school team.

Thank you to the dedicated team at North Saginaw Charter Academy for fostering a supportive, collaborative environment for the whole school team.

Huge shoutout to Ms. Jackie & the Jolly Smiles Mobile Dental team!

Jolly Smiles Mobile Dental Services is a deeply valued CIS of Michigan partner. This is their fourth year collaborating with Student Support Coordinator Haïette M-M, Student Support Coordinator, CIS of Michigan.

Jolly Smiles provided top-notch, FREE dental care at Tri-County Educational Center, TCEC, for the second year, making sure health resources are accessible to every student. We can’t wait to welcome their team back later this semester.

At CIS of Michigan, supporting the whole child means putting health and wellness first. Thank you, Jolly Smiles, for your continued partnership and compassionate care you bring directly to our students. As Ms. Jackie says, it’s “always a jolly experience!

Our seventh and eighth grade young men officially kicked off the CIS of Michigan Young Male Scholar Initiative at Pontiac Middle School, led by Student Support Coordinator KD Sanders NSpire.

During the kick-off meeting, students engaged in thoughtful discussions about personal responsibility, showing incredible maturity as they began exploring how their choices shape their future.

With support from Principal Dr. Robinson, the administrative team, and CIS of Michigan, these young men meet monthly to set and track academic goals, build mutual accountability, and celebrate personal wins as a group.

We can’t wait to watch these scholars achieve their goals!
