The MARD team, including Chippewa County ROD Gigi Ferro, MARD President Brandon Denby, Newaygo ROD Stu Sanders and more, worked together to educate the public about this proposal and stop it, for now.

"After an op-ed piece published in the Sault Evening News tipped off locals to the possibility of combining two offices in County, a number of officials and residents came out to speak against it."

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. , (WPBN/WGTU) -- Chippewa County Board of Commissioners met Thursday night in Sault Ste. Marie. While the topic wasn’t on the agenda for the meeting, a number of community members spoke up against a possible consolidation of the county clerk and the county register of de...

Today was about education. It's about protecting a voice for the people. Both Clerks and Register of Deeds are constitutional offices that since inception have added many additional roles to those already important jobs. You can not be in two offices at once and WE (the people) deserve the most efficient and effective service possible. When it comes to elections and our homes we need accountability. MARD does not support combination.

ALERT! The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners will consider a proposal to ELIMINATE the publicly-elected Chippewa County Register of Deeds and fold its operations elsewhere into the county bureaucracy, eliminating a democratically-elected office that is an independent advocate for homeowners and small businesses in their real estate transactions and reducing transparency in government. Remember, this is not an issue of finances because ROD offices generate more revenue than expenses for local government.
