Photo swiped from Frogtown Cafe page - hope they don’t mind.

Old school shot of Pequea Township Police Department Sgt Barton with A/C Shenk, FF Hess (who later served as an assistant chief), and we believe A/C Steele. Shenk and Steele both served several years as fire chief, several years after this photo was taken.

The final weekend of May resulted in five dispatched incidents for the 55 volunteers. Saturday started off before 4am, when fire police were requested to assist 60 on an incident on Rt 272 near the Pequea / Providence Township line. Fire police were on scene until shortly after 8am. Around 3:30PM, Rescue, followed by the Utility and fire police made the response to a 2 car injury crash, assisting 53, on the 900 bl of Long Lane. Units returned in short order, with minimal fire services required. Shortly after 6:30PM, Engine, followed by the Utility with additional personnel, responded automatic aid on the reported house fire on Chadwick Circle, in the 66 first due. First arriving units from 66 found smoke showing. Engine 55 established a secondary water supply, threw some ladders, and the crew was assigned to the Bravo exposure of the duplex for recon and eventually ventilation.

Sunday brought a dispatch around 1:15PM, Rescue due auto aid to 53 on a reported injury crash on River Rd at River Corner Rd. 53 units arrived and cancelled Rescue 55. At approximately 5:45PM, the tanker was added to a woods fire in the Mount Nebo area, assisting company 58 with additional water.

Monday evening June 1 will be monthly maintenance night, so members of our crew will be around the firehouse from 7-9? PM going over the rigs and equipment.

If you're local to us, and being a part of the fire company is something that might interest you, feel free to swing in on Monday evening. We'd be happy to show you around and answer questions you might have about becoming involved at 55.

It's the second Monday of the month, which means tonight is our monthly company business meeting. The meeting starts at 8, and typically doesn't last longer than an hour, usually less. Members will be around by 7. If you have interest in joining the 55 team, stop by, hear what's going on, and talk to our members. We are always happy to talk with area residents who may be prospective new members of NDFC. Whether you'd like to join as an active responder (firefighter or fire police) or perhaps a support member, we'd love to discuss how you might be interested in helping your community. Keep in mind - we all started somewhere. No prior experience is necessary to join. Training and equipment expenses are covered - we just ask for some of your time and dedication.

We don’t have an over abundance of businesses in our first due, which is, for the most part, suburban and agricultural. That said, the businesses that we do have are supportive neighbors. Restoration Tractor Sales on Church Rd recently held a large auction, mostly tractors and tractor accessories. A gentleman who is not known to us donated a toy pedal tractor to be sold at the auction, with the proceeds to go to a volunteer fire company. Thank you to the donor and to Restoration Tractor. The proceeds were split between us and Robert Fulton Fire Company, as one of their mechanics is active with 89. Support from the community is always appreciated.

Coming soon - Fire Boat 55 !!!

As the northern border of our first due is the mighty Conestoga River, the chiefs and line officers have finally convinced our Board of Directors to purchase a much needed fire boat. This unit will remained docked at the Circle M campground for quick responses both up and down the river. We ask that kayakers and tubers please keep back 500 feet.

We are considering allowing our friends and neighbors at the Pequea Township Police Department to use it on occasion for river patrols and fishing expeditions.

We will evaluate the effectiveness of this unit next year, on April 1.

A special Thank You to Andy and the team at the Circle M RV & Camping Resort for hosting an emergency services familiarization event in advance of the camping season. Local Fire, EMS, and PTPD personnel were provided with dinner and an opportunity to engage with staff, review procedures, and conduct a campground tour. Many individuals are unaware of the complexities that large camping facilities pose for emergency services, particularly given that the resort increases the township's population by approximately 25% when operating at full capacity. Such preparatory and familiarization sessions are essential for ensuring effective collaboration and response to emergencies, ultimately enhancing the safety of all individuals involved. Thanks to Andy and Circle M for taking the proactive support to work with us. We always appreciate a positive working relationship with our area business partners working together to keep everyone safe.
